ZI Machine Manufacturing is a well-established, family-oriented precision machine shop located in El Dorado Hills, approximately 30 miles east of Sacramento. Since 1983, we have built our reputation on producing high-quality precision components primarily for the Aerospace and Defense industries.

We are looking for a Journeyman-level CNC Mill Machinist who can hit the ground running, work independently, and take ownership of their work.
\n
This is not a CNC operator position. We are looking for an experienced machinist who understands the entire setup and machining process, can make adjustments and program edits at the machine, and takes pride in producing quality parts.

Our 4x10 schedule gives you three-day weekends every week, while still providing the opportunity for additional overtime when you want it.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
\n
As a Journeyman CNC Mill Machinist, you will be responsible for setting up, running, and inspecting CNC mill jobs using programs provided by our programming department.
\n
Your responsibilities will include:
\n
- \n
- Set up and operate 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC mills
- Read and understand complex engineering drawings and GD&T
- Load and prove out CNC programs
- Edit G & M code at the machine as needed
- Make tool, work offset, and wear adjustments
- Select appropriate cutting tools and workholding
- Establish and adjust speeds and feeds
- Optimize machining processes at the machine
- Troubleshoot tooling, workholding, dimensional, and machining issues
- Inspect your own work and maintain tight tolerances
- Make adjustments necessary to consistently produce quality parts
- Create setup and operating instructions when needed
- Help develop and improve machining processes
- Work closely with our programming department when program changes are required
- Train and support less-experienced machinists and operators

Programming is handled by a separate department. You will not be expected to create CNC programs from scratch. However, you must be comfortable reading, understanding, and editing existing programs at the machine.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FORRequired
\n
- \n
- 10+ years of CNC mill machining experience in a job-shop environment
- Strong 3-, 4-, and 5-axis milling experience
- Ability to independently set up and run CNC mills
- Strong knowledge of G & M code editing
- Advanced knowledge of cutting tools and tool selection
- Strong understanding of speeds and feeds
- Advanced blueprint reading, including GD&T
- Ability to troubleshoot machining problems and make appropriate adjustments
- Ability to hold tight tolerances consistently
- Ability to work independently with little oversight
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

- Horizontal machining center experience
- Fixture and workholding design
- Aerospace/Defense machining experience
- Experience with difficult-to-machine materials
- Experience creating setup sheets and operating instructions
- Ability to train and mentor operators and less-experienced machinists
