Reports to: VP of Construction Materials

Job Summary:

The General Manager is responsible for overall leadership and performance of the company, overseeing day-to-day operations while driving long-term profitability, strategic growth, and operational excellence. This role provides direction and oversight across project management, estimating, field operations, and business development to ensure all projects are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget. The position fosters a high-performance culture through effective leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Transportation Manager

Driver Trainer Coordinator

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follows all company safety and environmental policies and all federal regulations (OSHA, MSHA, FRA, EPA, DOT, and SDDANR, IADENR).
  • Direct all aspects of daily operations by working with the department managers to ensure consistent production and quality.
  • Oversees plant scheduling, material procurement, inventory control, and equipment maintenance.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs to improve productivity, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop managers, operators, and all other personnel.
  • Promote high-performance culture emphasizing teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Create and implement strategies for business growth and development.
  • Analyze production data to support pricing, supply forecasting, and market competitiveness.
  • Ensuring the company delivers Safety, Quality, and Service to our customers.
  • Collaborate with department managers to ensure timely delivery of asphalt to internal and external customers.
  • Working closely with other senior staff to improve efficiency and performance.
  • Improve internal processes for better productivity.
  • Maintain accurate records of quality control activities, including test results, inspections, and corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, city, county, and state agencies.
  • Required to read and understand specifications for city, county, and state projects.
  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing customer inquiries, resolving complaints, and ensuring customer satisfaction throughout the construction process.
  • Assisting with other duties as required.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.

8 – 10 years of progressive leadership experience in the asphalt paving industry.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.

Must be able to work in an outdoor environment with exposure to weather, noise, and dust.

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of standing.

Must be able to withstand periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
