Job DescriptionMobile Crane Service Technician

Picture the start of your day at our Winston Salem, NC branch: the Service Manager briefs you on a scheduled annual inspection for a lattice boom crane, followed by a field call to diagnose a hydraulic issue on a boom truck. You load up, head out, and put your expertise to work—troubleshooting electrical and hydraulic systems, completing precise inspections, and keeping customers informed every step of the way.

What you will do

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain mobile hydraulic and lattice cranes in the field and at customer sites.
  • Independently tackle light diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs (oil changes, brake jobs, etc.).
  • Execute accurate annual inspections and document findings thoroughly.
  • Complete work orders, time sheets, hours overviews, and expense reports with precision.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service and represent MGX Equipment Services professionally.
  • Pitch in with additional tasks as needed.

What you bring

  • Hands-on mechanical background with working knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems; able to read both types of schematics.
  • Proven experience in preventative maintenance and light equipment repair.
  • Ability to travel to jobsites and for training—up to 50%.
  • Clear communicator with a strong customer focus.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Experience with mobile cranes and/or heavy equipment is a plus.

Preferred

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1+ year as a Crane Mechanic/Technician.

Schedule and environment

Typical hours run 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with overtime and occasional weekends depending on customer demand. Field work may expose you to extreme temperatures, weather, dust, fumes, odors, and noise. The work can involve sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and frequent lifting or moving of up to 40 lbs. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Compensation and extras

  • Hourly range: $25.00–$45.00, based on experience.
  • $4,500 sign-on bonus paid after 90 consecutive days of employment.
  • Tool Reimbursement Program: up to $1,500 per calendar year.
  • Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
