Job Description

The Emissions Technician supports oil and gas field operations by monitoring, measuring, documenting, and helping mitigate air emissions across production facilities. This role works directly in the field to ensure environmental compliance while supporting safe and efficient facility operations. The technician regularly travels to well sites, tank batteries, compressor stations, and processing facilities to inspect equipment, perform emissions monitoring, and assist with corrective actions.

This position requires a strong safety mindset, mechanical awareness, and the ability to work independently in remote field environments.

Responsibilities

Emissions Monitoring

• Conduct routine emissions monitoring at tank batteries, well sites, and compression facilities.
• Quantify emissions using portable analyzers and approved measurement methods.
• Identify potential emission sources and document findings accurately.

LDAR & Equipment Inspections

• Perform leak detection and repair (LDAR) activities in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Inspect thief hatches, pressure relief valves, pneumatic controllers, vapor recovery units (VRUs), flares, and combustors.
• Utilize approved optical gas imaging (OGI) cameras and gas detection instruments.

Compliance & Documentation

• Record inspection results and operational data in field data management systems.
• Maintain detailed and accurate environmental documentation.
• Assist with regulatory reporting and environmental record keeping.

Maintenance & Operational Support

• Initiate work orders for equipment requiring repair.
• Verify that corrective actions have been completed.
• Maintain calibration and proper functioning of monitoring equipment.
• Support operations teams in identifying opportunities to reduce emissions.

Environmental & Safety Compliance

• Follow environmental regulations and field safety procedures.
• Participate in environmental inspections and audits.
• Maintain awareness of regulatory requirements and operational standards.

Skills and Qualifications

Experience

• Prior experience in oil and gas field operations preferred.
• Experience with emissions monitoring, LDAR, or environmental compliance is beneficial.
• Familiarity with production equipment such as tank batteries, VRUs, flares, and compressors is advantageous.

Technical Knowledge

• Understanding of air emissions monitoring practices.
• Familiarity with EPA Subpart OOOO regulations is preferred.
• Knowledge of gas detection instruments and monitoring equipment.
• Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.

Regulatory Awareness

• Understanding of federal and state environmental requirements related to oil and gas operations.
• Ability to maintain accurate and audit-ready documentation.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk long distances across uneven terrain.
• Comfortable climbing ladders and tank stairs.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 40–50 pounds.
• Ability to drive regularly on lease roads and remote locations.

Work Schedule

• Typical schedule is a 5/2 rotation.
• May require extended hours depending on operational needs.
• Occasional on-call support during weekends or holidays may be required.

Job Details

Pay: $50/per hour
