About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to join our Finance & Accounting team in Washington, DC. This role maintains accurate financial records, performs reconciliations, supports month-end and year-end close, and prepares financial reports for management across multiple properties and operating entities.
The right candidate is organized, analytical, comfortable working independently, and ready to take ownership of the full accounting cycle.
What You'll Do
General Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Prepare and maintain general ledger entries with supporting documentation
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Perform bank, credit card, and general ledger reconciliations
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Prepare financial statements, schedules, and management reports
- Research and resolve account discrepancies and unusual transactions
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and budget-to-actual variance analysis
- Support internal and external audit requests
Property Management Accounting
- Maintain financial records for multiple properties, locations, and operating entities
- Review property-related revenue and expenses for accuracy
- Ensure expenses are coded and allocated to the correct property, department, and GL account
- Prepare and review property-level financial reports and operating statements
- Track property receivables, vendor payments, and expenses
- Work with operational teams to resolve property-level discrepancies
Payroll Support
- Assist with payroll-related accounting and GL reconciliations
- Review payroll transactions for proper classification
- Support payroll reporting
Excel & Financial Analysis
- Analyze and reconcile financial data using advanced Excel
- Build and maintain financial spreadsheets and reporting tools
- Identify opportunities to automate recurring reports and processes
What You Bring
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3–5 years of professional accounting experience
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online
- Advanced Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS)
- Experience with GL accounting, AP, AR, and reconciliations
- Experience supporting month-end and year-end close
- General knowledge of payroll accounting
- Strong understanding of accounting principles
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong analytical, prioritization, and communication skills
Preferred
- Property management or commercial real estate accounting
- Multi-property or multi-entity accounting
- Property-level P&L reporting
- Budget and variance analysis
- High-volume AP/AR
- ADP payroll
- Experience with multi-location service organizations
