Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Associate Attorney to join our family law litigation team. The ideal candidate will manage a diverse caseload of family law matters, advocate vigorously for clients in contested proceedings, and contribute to case strategy from intake through trial. This role requires strong litigation skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to client service in high-stakes family law disputes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a full caseload of family law and family litigation matters, including custody, support, property division, and domestic violence cases.
  • Draft and file pleadings, motions, trial briefs, financial disclosures, settlement documents, and other court filings in compliance with court rules and deadlines.
  • Prepare for and represent clients at hearings, case management conferences, settlement conferences, and trials; present oral argument and advocate effectively in court.
  • Conduct and defend depositions of parties and witnesses; prepare witness outlines and exhibits for hearings and trials.
  • Perform legal research and draft memoranda on complex family law and evidentiary issues to support litigation strategy.
  • Interview and counsel clients, maintain communication throughout the litigation process, and prepare clients for hearings, depositions, and trial testimony.
  • Develop case strategy, evaluate settlement options, negotiate with opposing counsel, and collaborate with mediators when appropriate.
  • Work closely with paralegals and support staff to manage discovery, document review, and trial preparation, including organizing exhibits and trial notebooks.
  • Maintain accurate case files, calendar important dates, meet filing deadlines, and ensure compliance with local court procedures.
  • Participate in business development initiatives, client intake interviews, and contribute to firm training and mentorship of junior staff.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active admission to the state bar where practice will occur.
  • 1+ years of hands-on family law litigation experience preferred; candidates with experience as an Associate Attorney in family litigation will be strongly considered.
  • Proven experience preparing pleadings, trial briefs, financial disclosures, discovery responses, and other litigation documents.
  • Demonstrated courtroom experience representing clients at hearings and trials, including taking and defending depositions.
  • Strong knowledge of family law principles, rules of evidence, and court procedures relevant to custody, support, and property division disputes.
  • Excellent written and oral advocacy skills; ability to draft persuasive legal documents and present coherent arguments in court.
  • Exceptional client counseling skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to manage sensitive family matters with professionalism and empathy.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a high-volume caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with litigation support software, e-filing systems, and standard office technology.
  • Commitment to continuing legal education and professional development; prior experience mentoring junior attorneys or staff is a plus.
