Target Salary Range*: $150,000 - $180,000.
*This represents the potential salary range for this position depending on education level, years of experience and/or certifications in addition to other position specific requirements which may impact salary
Position Overview:
Amatriot is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to support our National Programs Intelligence Systems & Application Operating Unit. The SITE III ITS Task Order effort is charged with the orchestration, sustainment, and evolution of a portfolio of mission applications and services for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). The primary work location is Riverdale, MD, but support from other customer locations in the National Capital Region is a possibility, but the candidate would most likely have to report to the Riverdale, MD location until alternate work locations can be arranged.
The potential candidate requires previous experience with Linux System Administration for applications in a classified environment. System Administration tasking will include installation, configuration and maintenance of Linux servers, virtual servers, application software upgrades. Some minor Windows System Administration may be needed as well, but will not be the primary function.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for all Operation & Maintenance (O&M) tasks and maintaining operational baselines and performance of application O&M activities to include: patching, application monitoring, and customer support. When necessary, the candidate will troubleshoot network and application performance issues and recommend appropriate action. Candidate will work closely with members of the project team, product subject matter experts, end users, and software engineers to ensure that the application remains operational by monitoring application performance, providing technical assistance, and consultation to users.
Additional duties will include supporting database administrators, developing tools to assist in management of systems, ensuring application documentation (e.g., System Administration Guides, SOPs, Installation Procedures, etc.), and performing daily application backups.
Overall System Administrator responsibilities include:
- Server Administration & Management: Oversee and manage both virtual and physical servers for enterprise, regional, and local systems. Responsibilities include the installation, configuration, documentation, maintenance, and ongoing support of server environments hosting mission-critical applications and infrastructure services.
- System Configuration & Software Support: Install and configure operating systems, database software (Oracle), and application software across both physical and virtual servers. Ensure system software is properly integrated and supports enterprise applications.
- Performance Optimization & Resource Management: Monitor and optimize system performance, including CPU, memory, disk usage, and response times. Implement proactive measures to address potential performance bottlenecks. Troubleshoot and resolve system issues related to resource usage.
- System Security & Compliance: Ensure systems and databases meet security standards and comply with relevant regulations. Implement and enforce security policies, conduct regular vulnerability assessments, and manage security updates and patches for both operating systems and database environments.
- Incident & Problem Management: Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 support for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving system and database issues. Respond to service outages, coordinate recovery efforts, and ensure timely resolution of problems. Assist in root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent future issues.
- System Maintenance & Upgrades: Plan and execute system downtime for scheduled maintenance, upgrades, and new releases. Install and test patches and updates for both operating systems and database applications (e.g., Oracle).
- Backup & Disaster Recovery: Oversee and validate regular system and database backups. Ensure data integrity and support disaster recovery plans by testing restoration procedures.
- Collaboration & User Interaction: Work with cross-functional teams and external partners to install and configure server systems, as well as to support system integrations with other applications. Provide user support and consult with clients for complex technical problems.
- Documentation & Knowledge Management: Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, hardware, software, and processes. Provide clear reporting for troubleshooting, maintenance, and security audits.
- Training & Knowledge Sharing: Train and mentor staff on server and database management best practices. Assist in developing training materials and ensuring that operators are well-equipped to support the systems.
- Cross-Platform Support: Provide support for Linux and UNIX-based server environments, with a focus on application and database performance, troubleshooting, and configurations.
Qualifications:
Clearance: TS/SCI with Counterintelligence (CI) Polygraph required.
Education & Experience: BA/BS degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience. An additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Systems Administration Experience: Proven experience in system administration, specifically with Linux (RHEL and Ubuntu), and UNIX in classified environments. Some Windows server administration experience would be good to have.
Oracle Database Expertise: Hands-on experience with Oracle Database installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Certifications: Currently valid DoD 8570 Certification like Security+ CE, CASP, CISSP or similar security certification
Technical Proficiency: Experience managing both virtual and physical servers, performing system monitoring, backup management, and implementing performance optimizations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
- Linux (RHEL and CentOS) and Windows System Administration certification(s)
- DoDIIS Messaging experience
- Familiarity with DODIIS security/builds
- Experience installing/configuring and managing/supporting PostgreSQL and Oracle databases in a classified environment
- Experience performing system admin duties in the C2S/AWS environment
- Ability to work after hours and weekends, when needed for deployments
- Solid understanding of remediating security vulnerabilities and experience
- hardening Linux systems in accordance with RMF and STIGs
- Experience with Linux-based procedures and scripting such as PL/SQL, UNIX – common shell scripting (k, c, bash, etc.)
- Experience with DIA systems
- Knowledge of Linux, Windows, and Weblogic servers
- Knowledge of API Services (DPaaS), OpenShift4, CI/CD, Oracle Fusion Middleware, WebLogic 12C
