The Part-Time Maker Playground Staff position is responsible for onsite supervision, training coordination, membership services and execution of specific projects and programs in Maker Playground, which is managed by the Parks Department for the City of Fishers. Maker Playground operates as a public facility, inviting designers, entrepreneurs, fabricators, creatives, artists, teachers, and those new to “making” to engage in collaboration, mentorship, events, programs, training and more. Maker Playground Staff work closely with the Makerspace Manager, members, educators, and program leaders. The ideal applicant is self-motivated and feels comfortable overseeing members while managing a project from initial concept to completion. This position is a year-round part-time position with an average of 20-29 hours a week, requiring evening and weekend availability.
Examples of Duties
- Oversee use of tools and equipment
- Assist members and contractors with proper use of tools and equipment
- Conduct safety trainings for new members
- Provide tours of Makerspace
- Administrative duties related to membership and training
- Perform basic maintenance on tools and equipment
- Balance completion of assigned projects with general shop supervision and administrative duties
- Create internal projects utilizing woodworking, laser cutting, 3D printing, and CNC routing
- Generate activity and project ideas
- Create and lead classes for members and community
- Various other operational duties as needed within the Makerspace
Minimum Qualifications
- Prior experience in trades specific to the Makerspace (trades experience through work or hobby background considered);
- Basic knowledge of equipment being used in the space (CNC, Laser Cutter, Wood Shop Equipment, Welding Equipment, 3D printers);
- Previous experience working in a Makerspace a plus;
- Must demonstrate the ability to work effectively in fast-paced, stressful situations and seamlessly handle multiple tasks and responsibilities;
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills required;
- Evening and weekend hours are required based on business needs.
