The greenhouse facilities for Ball Horticultural Company are home to a wide range of plant research, breeding, and marketing activities. The Ball Seed Assistant Grower plays a crucial role in supporting greenhouse programs. Greenhouse programs range from propagation, finished grow outs with an emphasis in breeding, R&D, and some field trialing. This position is ideal for candidates looking for greenhouse experience with an emphasis on research trials supporting Ball products and developing plant culture solutions for our customers.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Take ownership over all aspects of pot and tray filling.
- Maintain accurate running inventory of plastics and hard goods.
- Prepare trial spaces, hard goods, and other trial materials including, pots, trays, fertilizers, etc.
- Assist in the growing, watering, and maintaining of a wide variety of annual and perennial plant species.
- Effectively grow and maintain greenhouse and outdoor programs as set by standards from either a stakeholder or an Assistant Grower III or above.
- Participate in weekly pesticide applications.
- Participate in weekend water rotation.
- Assist with IPM activities including scouting, chemical and biological applications under supervision.
Requirements:
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of one year work experience in a greenhouse environment or working with plants is required
- General knowledge of plants is required
- Education in horticulture is preferred
- Familiarity with Microsoft programs, e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, Access
- Familiarity with greenhouse operations from a growing perspective
- Required to obtain pesticide license and keep up to date on certification within 4 months of hire date
- Environment ranges from cool to hot, depending on the time of year and whether tasks are being performed inside a greenhouse or out in the field

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift/carry 45 lbs. up to 10% of the day
- Ability to lift/carry 20 lbs. up to 50% of the day
- Ability to push/pull 45 lbs. up to 50% of the day
- Ability to sit/stand up to 100% of the day
- Ability to kneel/bend up to 20% of the day
- Ability to reach up to 75% of the day
- Ability to climb/balance up to 5% of the day
- Ability to use hands/fingers up to 100% of the day
- Ability to work in hot, humid greenhouse conditions environmental conditions for up to 80% of the day.
Pay: $17-$21 per hour
