We are thrilled to announce an opportunity for a full-time Pediatric Rheumatologist to become part of our academic faculty within the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology, Department of Pediatrics. Our organization operates the only children's hospital in northeastern New York, serving over 740,000 children and young adults across 25 counties in upstate New York, southern Vermont, and western Massachusetts.

Position Overview

We are looking for a board-certified (or board-eligible) Pediatric Rheumatologist to enhance our established academic division. Candidates must have completed an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Pediatric Rheumatology (or Med-Peds Rheumatology) and will be eligible for a faculty appointment at a rank that reflects their experience and qualifications. This role can also be tailored for a Med-Peds Rheumatologist focused on developing a transition program.

About the Division

  • Join a team of 4 Pediatric Rheumatology Physicians and 1 Advanced Practice Provider.
  • Support staff includes two full-time nurses, one per-diem nurse, medical assistants, and dedicated administrative personnel for each clinic, along with a research coordinator.
  • Participate in established outpatient clinics, including five satellite locations.
  • Engage in a shared inpatient consulting service with after-hours and weekend coverage.
  • Utilize a well-established procedure clinic and sedation service for joint injections.
  • Access point-of-care musculoskeletal ultrasound for faculty interested in training.
  • Benefit from an infusion program managed by advanced practice providers and nurses under physician supervision.
  • Collaborate closely with pediatric subspecialists throughout the Children's Hospital.
  • Receive a faculty appointment through Albany Medical College at a rank that aligns with your experience and qualifications.

A Unique Clinical and Academic Environment

Our organization boasts a dynamic and expanding Pediatric Rheumatology program, offering numerous opportunities to engage in and enhance established initiatives, such as:

  • A dedicated Pediatric Rheumatology Clinical Pharmacy Program in partnership with Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, focusing on insurance appeals, patient advocacy, and educational missions.
  • Quality Improvement initiatives through the Division Quality Improvement Team (QIT), which includes physicians, APPs, nurses, community leaders, and parent-investigators actively involved in various projects.
  • Contribution to the CARRA registry and sub-studies, supported by a dedicated Research Coordinator.
  • Encouragement for musculoskeletal ultrasound training through USSONAR for interested candidates.
  • Development of a Pediatric Interdisciplinary Pain Program in collaboration with behavioral health and rehabilitation services for chronic pain management.
  • Collaboration with the Adult Rheumatology Fellowship program, allowing pediatric faculty to supervise rotating fellows and participate in didactics and quality improvement activities.
  • Engagement in various teaching opportunities, including weekly case conferences, joint didactics, and workshops for medical students and residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide outpatient consultations and follow-up care in pediatric rheumatology.
  • Conduct inpatient rheumatology consultations when on call.
  • Participate in shared after-hours (phone only) and weekend coverage, averaging about once every four weeks.
  • Teach and supervise medical students, residents, and other learners.
  • Mentor trainees in clinical research and scholarly activities.
  • Contribute to division quality improvement and CARRA registry activities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the Children's Hospital.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO or equivalent degree.
  • Completion of an accredited Pediatric Rheumatology (or Med-Peds Rheumatology) fellowship program.
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Pediatric Rheumatology.
  • Eligibility for a New York State medical license.
  • Dedication to clinical excellence, education, and academic medicine.
  • Preferred special interest in quality improvement, medical education, musculoskeletal ultrasound, or advocacy initiatives.
