Senior VMWare & Horizon Engineer
Location: Joint Base Andrews (JBA), Maryland
Clearance Required: Secret
Certifications Required: Active Security+ | VMware Horizon Certification | VMware Certification
Work Hours: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM or 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
We are hiring an experienced VMware Horizon VDI Engineer to support a mission-critical VMware virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environment supporting both classified and unclassified networks at Joint Base Andrews. This position combines hands-on engineering with project support responsibilities and offers the opportunity to operate in a high-tempo, 24/7/365 enterprise IT environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a Tier 2 escalation point from the Service Desk for VMware Horizon VDI-related support.
- Administer and maintain VMware Horizon environments: provisioning, remediation, and virtual machine setup.
- Perform routine patching and troubleshooting of Unified Access Gateways (UAGs), Connection Servers, and vCenters.
- Manage ESXi hosts, clusters, and vSAN, maintaining uptime and performance standards.
- Oversee App Volumes, Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM), and manage Active Directory (AD) and GPOconfigurations.
- Build and maintain Windows 10/11 VDI Master Images integrated with business-specific applications.
- Analyze, develop, and maintain enterprise automation in line with DoD standards and operational policies.
- Translate O&M requirements into technical solutions for leadership and customers.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and quality assurance.
- Maintain readiness to support a 24/7/365 operations environment, assisting with urgent remediation as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Active Secret Clearance
- Security+ (DoD 8570 IAT Level II compliant)
- VMware Horizon and VMware platform certification
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Designing, deploying, and maintaining VMware Horizon VDI infrastructure
- Troubleshooting across Active Directory, VMware, and Horizon platforms
- Operating in mission-critical environments and adhering to DoD standards
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with senior leadership and end users
- Experience supporting classified and unclassified network infrastructures
