Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority is seeking a Staff Psychologist to evaluate persons served, conduct psychological assessments, and serve as a clinical consultant within our Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities services team. In this role, you will apply behavioral, sociological, and psychological concepts using the DSM-5-TR, support person-centered planning, implement recovery-based practices, and deliver trauma-informed care in an outpatient community mental health setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare professional psychological assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and mental status examinations using the DSM-5-TR to guide person-centered planning and treatment.
  • Select, administer, score, and interpret standard diagnostic instruments including intelligence, achievement, personality, neuropsychological, vocational, and projective tests.
  • Provide directive, non-directive, and supportive individual and group therapy, along with crisis intervention assistance.
  • Deliver clinical consultation on Dialectical Behavior Therapy team formation, behavioral plans, group dynamics, and skill performance outcomes.
  • Evaluate NGRI status to determine the adequacy of treatment plans and consult on voluntary and involuntary hospital admissions, discharges, and community management.
  • Provide expert testimony in court hearings regarding psychological matters and case assessments.
  • Participate in program research studies, continuous quality improvement functions, and inter-agency resource coordination.
  • Maintain clinical records, prepare clear case studies, and write official reports in compliance with best practice guidelines and accreditation standards.
  • Transport persons served to and from community resources using an agency or personal vehicle when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in a mental health related field from an accredited school.
  • Current license as a Licensed Psychologist or Limited Licensed Psychologist in the State of Michigan.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the human services field, with preferred experience in developmental disabilities or severe mental illness.
  • Minimum of three years of full-time postdoctoral or post-internship experience in psychological practice, training, research, consultation, or program planning.
  • Valid Michigan driver license with a good driving record.
  • Strong knowledge of applied behavior analysis, psychotherapy techniques, experimental research methods, and standardized psychological testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish therapeutic rapport, apply trauma-informed principles, and manage crisis situations effectively.

Working Conditions

  • Perform duties in an office and outpatient setting with time constraints and potential exposure to individuals who may become violent.
  • Travel frequently by automobile in all weather conditions to conduct evaluations across various community settings.
  • Possess physical ability to sit, stand, walk for extended periods, and lift or carry up to 20 pounds.

Saginaw County Community Mental Health (SCCMHA) is a local, independent, governmental unit serving the greater Saginaw County area, a Community Mental Health Services Program and has been a mental health authority under contract with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services since October 1, 1997.

In 2021, it was named a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. As a CCBHC, SCCMHA is a “one stop wellness center” and offers a full range of services that create access to care, stabilizes individuals in crisis and provides the necessary treatment for those with mental illnesses, intellectual/developmental disorders, children/youth with emotional disorders and substance use disorders regardless of their insurance coverage.

SCCMHA is a behavioral health provider but also a specialty network. The network is comprised of organizations that provide professional services, but also housing and other support services and interventions in both office and sitebased locations as well as in the homes of consumers and their families.
