AQUATICS MANAGER


CLOSING DATE: July 3, 2025

PAY RATE: $60,646 - $87,936, depending on experience and qualification with starting wage not typically above the midpoint of the range ($85,965)

JOB SUMMARY

Performs a variety of general administrative, managerial and first-line duties as needed to organize and coordinate the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and services of the Lehi Legacy Center, Lehi Legacy Aquatic Center and the Lehi Community Outdoor Swimming Complex. Requires a combination of academic and technical training including a bachelor's degree in recreation management, physical education or a related field plus 5-6 years training and advancement through aquatics employment at an aquatics facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for the daily operation of all of the aquatics facilities, including but not limited to, staffing according to state laws; maintaining water balance of each pool in accordance with Utah State Health Code requirements; maintain a clean safe environment for guests and staff, correct any and all unsafe conditions; determine if conditions require the facility to be close; keep daily records as required by state code including daily safety checklists, water balance tests, maintenance checklists, chemicals used; staff certifications; in-services as well as accident/incident reports; also keep daily financial reports and budget information. Failure to keep required, updated records can result in fines or closure. They are also necessary in case of lawsuits. As Aquatics Manager, provides general supervision to other Legacy Center staff. Coordinate scheduling of all the Legacy Center activities; attend bi-weekly meetings; attend program debriefing as needed; work closely with other Assistant Directors. Also on call, 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Recommends and implements facility policies and procedures related to patron use, fees, safety, etc.; implements management control plans as needed to minimize risk and liability; monitors compliance.

Plans, develops, and implements swimming and recreational facility programs and services; coordinates scheduling and instructional times for school and community groups that use the facility.

Prepares outdoor swimming pool complex yearly budget and assists in preparation of annual budget for the Legacy Aquatic center; assures conformance to established fiscal program pertaining to facility and personnel needs; monitors department expenditures.

Directs general facility maintenance.

Coordinates hiring process; monitors and evaluates employee performance; prepares work schedules; assists in the development of worker skills by providing on-the-job training; conducts regular manager meetings as well as staff in-services; makes decisions affecting job retention, advancement and discipline.

Serves as liaison to the community for the Recreation Director; prepares and delivers reports as needed to advise the Recreation Director of projections and results; recommends aquatics operating hours; reviews complaints, problems, and concerns expressed by the public and makes recommendations concerning possible solutions and initiates change as needed.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Director


SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Provides close to general supervision to Assistant Aquatics Supervisor, Aquatics Managers, Head Lifeguards, Lifeguards, Water Safety Coordinator, Water Safety Instructors, Summer Rec Swim Team Coaches, USA Swim Team Coaches, Aquatics Maintenance Manager, Aquatics Maintenance Personnel and Aquatics Cashiers. Performance reviews are required of all full-time employees that we supervise. Numbers of staff range from 40- 50 employees during the school year to 140 plus during the summer. Yearly, monthly and sometimes weekly audits or reviews are required of all of our staff in the form of formal written reviews, skills testing in rescue and swimming skills are on-going constantly and records kept.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in recreation management, physical education or related field;

AND

Five (5) - Six (6) years working in an aquatics facility including a minimum of Two (2) years in a management position at a community aquatics facility


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Working knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of community recreation programming; the rules and regulations of a variety of aquatics and recreational activities; equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program; modern office management practices and procedures; basic accounting and bookkeeping; state and federal regulations governing facility and pool operations; climate control systems; aquatics structures; water filtration systems; chemical handling; air and water balancing systems and public health standards related to public pool operations.

Ability to develop, organize and implement various aquatic programs; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, managers, supervisors, vendors and the public; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.


Special Qualifications:

Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO); current CPR, First Aid and Oxygen Certification; desirable to have or be willing to obtain a lifeguard training certification and WSI certification. Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) preferred. Background and drug testing required.


Work Environment:

Climate controlled environment; OSHA related hazards possible with pool chemicals; light to medium physical exertion requiring ability to see, hear, walk, stoop, lift and talk; reasonable mental stability; possibly some periodic travel.
