Job Description

Job DescriptionWe are looking for an experienced IT Platform Owner - Microsoft 365 to lead the direction, governance, and ongoing performance of the Microsoft 365 environment for a manufacturing organization in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This role will shape secure, scalable, and cost-conscious platform standards across services such as Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Exchange Online, Power Platform, and Microsoft 365 Copilot. The ideal candidate brings strong technical judgment and can turn platform risks, capabilities, and limitations into practical guidance for business and technology stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
• Define the long-term strategy for the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including platform standards, feature rollout decisions, and enterprise-wide service direction.
• Evaluate new Microsoft 365 capabilities and determine whether they should be introduced, delayed, limited, or turned off based on risk, value, and readiness.
• Establish governance controls for collaboration and productivity services, including Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Exchange Online, guest access, and external sharing practices.
• Work closely with cybersecurity and identity partners to strengthen security controls, enforce least-privilege access, and support Zero Trust objectives.
• Lead Microsoft 365 Copilot planning by managing eligibility, deployment sequencing, licensing approach, usage oversight, and data protection considerations.
• Oversee licensing strategy and administration across Microsoft 365 and related security and compliance offerings, while driving usage visibility and cost optimization.
• Manage oversight of third-party application access, app registrations, service principals, and consent practices to reduce platform risk.
• Serve as the senior escalation point for complex Microsoft 365 issues, coordinating cross-functional response efforts and improving service reliability after incidents.
• Represent the platform in governance discussions, providing clear recommendations on capability, compliance, financial impact, and operational health.• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 7 years of experience managing or owning Microsoft 365 platforms in a large enterprise environment.
• Proven expertise with Microsoft 365 services such as Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange Online, and Microsoft 365 administration at the tenant level.
• Experience leading governance initiatives and collaborating with teams across security, identity, infrastructure, and compliance.
• Ability to explain technical risk, platform limitations, and security considerations in clear terms for non-technical stakeholders.
• Hands-on background in cloud service operations, including incident, problem, and change management for Microsoft 365 environments.
• Working knowledge of access management, security controls, and data protection practices aligned with Zero Trust principles.
• Familiarity with related technologies such as Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Office 365.
