Position Overview:
We are seeking a Payroll Accountant with a strong interest or background in payroll accounting and payroll tax compliance to join our client’s finance team. This is a key role focused on managing payroll-related general ledger entries, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Support end-to-end payroll accounting processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of payroll entries in the general ledger

Reconcile payroll-related accounts monthly, including wages, benefits, and payroll tax liabilities

Assist with payroll tax filings (federal, state, and local), ensuring compliance and timely submission

Collaborate with payroll team to review payroll runs and verify proper application of pay rates, deductions, and tax withholdings

Prepare and record journal entries related to payroll, benefits, and related accruals

Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual payroll tax reports (e.g., 941s, W-2s)

Participate in audits, providing documentation and support related to payroll and tax compliance

Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, with a focus on payroll-related accounts

Identify opportunities to streamline payroll accounting processes and enhance internal controls

Stay updated on payroll regulations and tax laws affecting the organization
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, with some exposure to payroll processes or payroll tax a strong plus

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas)

Experience with accounting or payroll systems (NetSuite and ADP or similar platforms preferred)

High attention to detail, with strong analytical and reconciliation skills

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
