Job Description
Job DescriptionLHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a client seeking a part-time SQL Server Database Administrator to keep a stable, MS-based environment running smoothly. You'll own the essentials-backups, uptime, performance, and database health-across several business-critical systems that support member services, accounting, websites, and internal applications. This is an urgent backfill due to an unexpected departure; we're looking for someone who can step in quickly, operate independently, and be a calm first responder when issues arise.
What You'll Do
- Maintain availability & performance of SQL Server instances, ensuring reliable uptime and fast query response.
- Own backup/restore strategy: maintenance plans, retention, and periodic recovery testing; handle patching and routine upkeep.
- Troubleshoot degradations/outages and act as the on-call responder when needed.
- Manage database code & integrations: maintain stored procedures, jobs, and database syncs between internal systems.
- Harden and monitor: uphold secure configurations, permissions, and monitoring/alerting for proactive stability.
- Continuously improve: identify tuning opportunities (indexes, execution plans, blocking/locking, I/O, capacity).
- Partner with technology leaders: collaborate with the Application Development Manager and IT leadership on priorities, releases, and change control.
- Support cloud-hosted workloads in OVH and AWS environments.
Environment
- Microsoft SQL Server (production + non-prod)
- Cloud hosting: OVH and AWS
- Applications: association/member portal, public website, accounting, and membership systems
- Systems are currently stable-the goal is to keep them that way with disciplined operations.
What You'll Bring
- Proven experience as a SQL Server DBA supporting production systems.
- Comfort owning production stability end-to-end in a lean environment.
- Hands-on performance tuning & optimization (indexes, plans, waits, DMVs).
- Experience with backup/restore strategies, patching, maintenance plans, and high-availability concepts.
- Familiarity with cloud-hosted SQL (AWS or similar; OVH exposure a plus).
- Ability to work independently as an individual contributor with crisp communication.
- US-based; remote OK. Able to attend periodic team meetings during business hours and support off-hours/on-call needs.
Engagement Details
- Schedule: ~8-16 hours/week, plus on-call coverage as needed.
- Location: Remote (US) with ability to join team meetings (video).
- Duration/Start: Immediate start; ongoing fractional support.
- Work Model: Contract via LHH Recruitment Solutions.
- Compensation: The expected pay range for this position is $40.00 to $50.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications.
