We are seeking an experienced Principal Data Scientist to join a high-impact forecasting team focused on load and renewable energy generation (solar & wind). This role is critical in building and deploying advanced forecasting models that support real-time decision-making across energy operations, trading, and system management.

You will work end-to-end—from data ingestion and feature engineering to model deployment and monitoring—delivering scalable, production-ready solutions in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy time-series forecasting models for load, solar, and wind generation
  • Build end-to-end machine learning pipelines, including data ingestion, feature engineering, training, and evaluation
  • Integrate weather and external data sources via APIs into forecasting workflows
  • Deploy models into production with monitoring, alerting, and performance tracking
  • Develop automated retraining frameworks to ensure model accuracy over time
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including trading, operations, and engineering
  • Create interactive dashboards and visualizations for business stakeholders
  • Work within Agile/Scrum environments and contribute to sprint activities

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in Data Science / Machine Learning
  • Strong expertise in Python and libraries such as pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, statsmodels
  • Proven experience with time-series forecasting (ARIMA, SARIMAX, Gradient Boosting, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience deploying models into production environments
  • Experience integrating APIs and external data sources (e.g., weather data)
  • Solid understanding of AWS cloud services (EC2, S3, Lambda, SageMaker)
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with large datasets
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Streamlit, Plotly, or similar)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in energy markets or renewable forecasting
  • Knowledge of probabilistic forecasting and uncertainty modeling
  • Familiarity with Agile tools such as Jira and Confluence
  • Experience with automated data pipelines and version control (Git)

Key Skills

  • Time-Series Forecasting & Predictive Modeling
  • Feature Engineering (especially weather-driven signals)
  • Model Evaluation (MAE, RMSE, MAPE)
  • Machine Learning Operations (MLOps)
  • Data Engineering & Pipeline Automation

What Makes This Role Exciting

  • Work on mission-critical energy forecasting systems
  • Opportunity to build production-grade ML solutions at scale
  • Collaborate with industry experts in energy, trading, and operations
  • Direct impact on real-time decision-making and renewable energy optimization
