Systems Administrator – Infrastructure & End User Operations

Opportune LLP – Houston, TX

The Systems Administrator – Infrastructure & End User Operations is a hands-on technical role responsible for maintaining and improving Opportune’s core systems, Microsoft cloud environment (M365/Azure), endpoint management, and SaaS applications while supporting day-to-day end-user operations. This role combines infrastructure ownership with operational support. Approximately 25% of time will focus on escalated support and endpoint operations, with the remaining time dedicated to system administration, automation, standardization, documentation, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate is technically strong, service-oriented, and motivated to reduce repetitive work through automation and process improvement. This position reports to the IT Director and works closely with the IT Analyst.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Systems Administration

  • Own endpoint management strategy, including device configuration, compliance policies, patching, and lifecycle management.
  • Maintain and monitor virtualized infrastructure (VMware or similar), backups, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Manage identity, access controls, MFA, conditional access, and least-privilege practices.
  • Support and administer core SaaS platforms including Box Enterprise and other business-critical applications.
  • Partner with outsourced vendors (e.g., network, firewall, SOC) to ensure effective collaboration and issue resolution.
  • Maintain accurate system documentation, diagrams, and configuration standards.

End User Operations & Escalation Support

  • Serve as Tier 2/3 escalation for technical issues.
  • Support imaging, provisioning, and deployment of laptops and mobile devices.
  • Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring accuracy, security, and timeliness.
  • Identify recurring support issues and implement long-term fixes.
  • Assist with AV systems, conference room technology, and office infrastructure as needed.

Automation & Process Improvement

  • Identify repetitive manual tasks and design automation solutions (PowerShell preferred).
  • Improve imaging, onboarding/offboarding, and device management workflows.
  • Develop standards for configuration, documentation, and change management.
  • Drive initiatives that reduce ticket volume and improve service efficiency.
  • Contribute to long-term infrastructure roadmap planning.

Governance & Security Collaboration

  • Support vulnerability remediation and patch compliance efforts.
  • Assist with audit readiness and documentation (SOC2 or similar frameworks).
  • Participate in incident response coordination when required.

Qualifications

Required

  • 3–6+ years of experience in systems administration or hybrid infrastructure/support role.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft 365 and Azure administration.
  • Experience managing endpoint environments (Intune or similar).
  • Working knowledge of virtualization platforms and backup solutions.
  • Experience supporting end users in a professional services or corporate environment.
  • Experience with scripting and automation (PowerShell strongly preferred).
  • Strong documentation and process orientation.
  • Customer-focused mindset with strong communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with Box Enterprise administration.
  • Familiarity with SOC, cybersecurity best practices, and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience working alongside managed service providers or outsourced security teams.
  • Industry experience in professional services or oil & gas environments.
