Position Overview:
The Facilities & Property Maintenance Team Member reports to the Funeral Home Manager and is responsible for efficiently maintaining the funeral home facilities. This role involves supporting the team through all groundskeeping and maintenance tasks as needed, ensuring our properties reflect the dignity and respect we uphold in our services.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance of buildings and vehicles according to the Cleaning Schedule and Maintenance Log.
  • Conduct HVAC and boiler maintenance to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Shovel snow and remove ice from grounds while performing landscaping duties, including mowing, weeding, and pruning.
  • Wash and clean all funeral home vehicles and client vehicles as a promotional gesture as needed.
  • Promote and maintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to Jersey Memorial Group's safety provisions.
  • Carry out additional duties as directed or assigned by management.
  • Perform electrical repairs in community areas, including lighting and laundry facilities.
  • Ensure all mechanical equipment is in working order and address repairs as necessary.
  • Complete general building cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Install and replace flooring, stairs, and piping as needed.
  • Repair and paint doors, windows, walls, ceilings, roofs, and other parts of the building.
  • Maintain trash and recycling receptacles around the facility.
  • Repair and maintain air conditioning and heating systems as required.
  • Utilize carpentry skills for tasks such as decks, cabinetry, and furniture repair.
  • Perform routine landscaping duties to keep the grounds looking pristine.

Experience and Educational Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or related experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • A high level of compassion and integrity.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Professional demeanor and a team player mentality.
  • Some positions may require driving; employees must be authorized drivers per the Jersey Memorial Safety Policy.

Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently requires lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing more than 20 lbs. without assistance.
  • Manual dexterity is often required (25% to 75% of the time on the job).
  • Physical work pace and exertion may lead to limited fatigue.

Mental/Sensory Requirements:

  • Involves periods of intense concentration (usually exceeding one hour at a time, occasionally several hours).
  • Duties may require long hours, including weekends, evenings, nights, and holidays. Exposure to extreme weather conditions and occasional unpleasant situations related to human remains or cremated remains may occur.
  • Driving Long distances of over 3 hours one way.

Physical Environment:

  • Moderate odors, dust, or fumes may cause discomfort or irritation to the eyes or respiratory passages.

Mental Stress:

  • The role involves minimal control over workflow or service demands, which may contribute to mental/emotional tension.
