Compensation:
$47,840 - $70,000 yearly
Responsibilities:
- The Paralegal will be working in person and full-time
- Responsible for conducting legal research, preparing discovery requests and responses, Motions to Compel Discovery, as well as oppositions, preparing petitions and complaints, communicating with clients, drafting other legal documents, and other tasks as assigned
- Answering phones, obtaining necessary information from callers onto the Clio system, routing calls, and making call logs
- Maintain files on Clio and tangible files
- Use daily timekeeping records for yourself and attorneys
- A successful Paralegal will manage time wisely, have great writing and research skills, and will ask the attorneys questions when unsure about a task or other assignment
- The Paralegal will work closely with both attorneys and clients, and will be able to handle sensitive information.
- Contact outside sources to retrieve information, review, and analyze the same
- Search and retrieve information from court-related databases as well as other online sources for case information
- Review, analyze, and organize document productions by opposing parties and co-defendants
- Summarize transcripts and organize key documents
- Manage documents and maintain organized case files
- Handles all aspects of document preparation, including processing edits, generating redlines, PDF creation, conversions, and quality control of work product
- Seeks ways of being professional and responsive to clients, providing superior client service
- Utilizes applications like Excel and Adobe with proficiency to facilitate an attorney’s work.
- Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned
- Assures that all completed projects adhere to accepted professional standards
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others
- Complies with and understands Firm operations, policies, and procedures
- Regular and reliable physical presence to work as part of a team.
- Draft certain motions and pleadings
- Cite-check briefs and motions to ensure consistency with sources cited and proper citation style (ALWD citation style)
- Coordinate the service of process
- Prepare and coordinate service of Subpoenas, with Notice to Consumer
- Prepare properly formatted templates of briefs, motions, and other filings compliant with the California rules
- Proofread briefs, motions, and other filings prior to filing
- Assemble appendices and exhibits
- Coordinate printing and delivery of briefs, compliant
- Communicate with the clerk’s offices for the courts
- Electronically file briefs and other materials
- Organize exhibits, files, and all other supporting documents
- Each team member is expected to provide professional, efficient, and thoughtful support to the attorneys. Each team member should think critically and use common sense and problem-solving skills while maintaining a positive, professional attitude at work. In our work, we act as a cohesive team to reach common goals on the client's behalf
Qualifications:
- An ABA-approved paralegal certification
- Three or more years of working experience as a Paralegal
- Knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Word, Outlook, Excel, Clio), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrates close attention to detail
- Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities
- Ability to organize and prioritize work
- Ability to work well under pressure in a demanding and fast-paced environment
- Ability to work well independently, as well as effectively within a team
- Ability to synthesize information to prioritize and organize tasks
- Ability to work in the office five days per week
- Demonstrates a high level of professionalism
- Flexibility and willingness to perform a wide range of tasks extending beyond routine expectations
- Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work well with others, including clients
- Bachelor’s degree with strong academic credentials; relevant work experience a plus
- Ability to take ownership of discrete projects and be able to work without direct supervision
- Available to work overtime
- Experience working in estate, probate, and/or litigation is preferred
- Typing speed of 65wpm+
