A Fresh Department Associate is responsible for overseeing the Produce and Bulk department, Bakery, and Deli. We are looking for a courteous, customer-focused Associate who is committed to providing customers with the best service possible. This position will require cleaning and preparing workstations and displays, providing outstanding customer service, merchandising and stocking assigned departments and having shared accountability for financial performance of assigned departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Providing responsive, exceptional service to Deli counter customers by answering questions, making recommendations, providing samples, and responding to requests.
- Preparing grab-n-go food items such as sandwiches, wraps, and salads.
- Preparing and maintaining the bakery display case. Examples include preparation of products like muffins, cookies, and scones to be baked fresh daily.
- Merchandising the Produce department with fresh, culled and prepared/processed products daily.
- Stock, rotate and merchandise Bulk products such as nuts, seeds, grains, etc.
- Updating displays, cases, and other customer-facing areas to ensure new items and promotions are showcased with proper signage and sales tags.
- Ensuring that work areas are ready to service customers by cleaning surfaces, equipment, and floors, removing trash, and confirming that tools are in working order.
- Following all food safety and sanitation procedures established by the company and other regulatory agencies.
- Responsible for ordering product for all assigned departments to maintain stock.
- Responsible for inventory control including out of stocks, back stock, and shrink.
- Must have open availability as Managers are responsible for opening and/or closing store and performing opening and/or closing duties.
- Perform other duties are assigned.
Education requirements:
High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
Experience/Skills:
- Minimum 6 months of customer service experience
- Deli counter or food preparation experience is required.
- Ability to operate equipment, ovens, blenders, scales, cash registers, etc.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and math skills.
- Ability to comprehend and follow all company procedures and regulations regarding food handling and sanitation.
- A courteous and efficient approach to handling customer requests, questions, and complaints.
- A Food Safety Manager Certification is required within first 60 days of employment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 25-50 pounds when needed
- Ability to stand throughout shift
- Ability to lift items above head
- Ability to stoop, bend and lift items
