We are hiring for an Assistant Warehouse Manager on behalf of our client, a global food sourcing, importing, and private-label distribution firm. This position combines hands-on floor leadership, process design, project management, and data analysis while serving as the primary backup to the Warehouse Manager.


Location: Suffolk, VA
Schedule: Mon-Fri, 6:00am-2:30pm
Compensation: $75,000-$80,000K


Responsibilities

  • Evaluate receiving, put away, picking, staging, and shipping workflows to identify bottlenecks.
  • Serve as the primary operational power user for WMS and ERP systems; build performance dashboards, track KPIs, and extract data to optimize labor utilization, throughput, and space capacity.
  • Analyze racking, slotting configurations, traffic flow, and high-density storage alternatives to improve storage density and picking efficiency.
  • Partner closely with floor supervisors to enforce standard operating procedures; step in as the acting facility leader to direct operations during the Warehouse Manager's absence.
  • Ensure all process improvements comply with GMP, BRCGS, FDA, allergen control, FIFO/FEFO rotation, and product traceability standards.
  • Develop standardized work instructions, training materials, and hands-on guidance to cross-train warehouse personnel on new technologies and processes.


Qualifications and Key Skills

  • 3 or more years of progressive experience in a warehouse, logistics, or continuous improvement environment.
  • Required hands-on experience utilizing WMS, ERP, and RF scanning technology; prior experience with system implementations or optimizations is strongly preferred.
  • Strong data analytics and Microsoft Excel skills (formulas, lookups, reporting) with the ability to turn raw metrics into actionable operational strategies.
  • Preferred background in food/beverage or shelf-stable grocery distribution.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, manage projects, and build credibility with frontline teams.
  • Preferred knowledge of Lean, 5S, Kaizen, BRCGS, and FDA compliance regulations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or Business preferred (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Physical capability to stand/walk for extended periods, work in ambient (non-temperature-controlled) warehouse conditions, and lift up to 50 lbs periodically.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
