About the Role

We are hiring a Patent Paralegal or Senior IP Assistant to support a patent prosecution team at a mid-size law firm.

This role requires someone who can independently manage both U.S. and foreign patent prosecution work. You will not be siloed into a single task or limited function.

If your experience is limited to domestic filings or docketing only, this is not the right role.

Must-Have Experience (Read Carefully)

You must have hands-on experience with both:

U.S. Patent Prosecution

  • Provisional and non-provisional filings
  • Office Action responses
  • IDS, amendments, and formalities
  • USPTO filings through allowance and issuance

Foreign Patent Prosecution

  • PCT filings
  • National stage entries
  • Direct coordination with foreign counsel
  • Managing international deadlines

If you do not have both U.S. and foreign experience, this role is not a fit.

Required Background

  • 4+ years of patent prosecution experience in a law firm
  • Experience owning matters from filing through issuance and maintenance
  • Comfortable billing time
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to support multiple attorneys in a team-oriented environment

Systems and Tools

Strong preference for experience with:

  • Foundation IP
  • USPTO Patent Center
  • PAIR / MyUSPTO
  • Microsoft Office and Excel
  • IP research and docketing systems

What You Will Do

  • Prepare and file U.S. and foreign patent applications
  • Manage patent prosecution matters end to end
  • Coordinate with foreign associates on international filings
  • Draft and file Office Action responses, IDS, amendments, and formalities
  • Communicate with attorneys and clients regarding deadlines and status
  • Assist with post-issuance matters and portfolio reporting
  • Track and enter billable time

Why This Role Makes Sense

  • Predictable hybrid schedule
  • Mid-size firm with meaningful responsibility
  • Full-scope patent prosecution exposure
  • Competitive base salary plus bonuses
  • Long-term stability in a strong IP practice
