Maintenance Team Assistant
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Part-Time Facilities Team Member to help maintain our church facility and support our ministry through excellent facility management. This role combines maintenance, custodial duties, and event setup to ensure our church provides a welcoming, clean, and functional environment for worship, fellowship, and community activities.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform routine maintenance tasks including minor plumbing and electrical
- Maintain exterior and interior lighting systems
- Conduct regular inspections of building systems and equipment
- Handle basic carpentry and painting projects
- Monitor and maintain heating, cooling, and ventilation systems
- Ensure proper functioning of audio/visual equipment in meeting spaces
- Maintain outdoor grounds including landscaping and maintaining that equipment
Custodial Services
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, kitchens, and common areas
- Vacuum carpets and mop hard surface floors throughout the facility
- Empty trash receptacles and maintain waste management systems
- Clean windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces
- Dust furniture, fixtures, and equipment
- Maintain supply inventory and communicate needs to supervisor
- Deep clean sanctuary and fellowship areas on a rotating schedule
Event Setup & Support
- Set up chairs, tables, and equipment for worship services and special events
- Arrange room configurations based on event requirements
- Ensure proper lighting, temperature, and audio/visual setup for gatherings
- Coordinate with ministry leaders to understand setup needs
- Break down and store equipment after events
- Prepare spaces for weddings, funerals, and community functions
- Assist with moving furniture and equipment as needed
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance and repair
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks
- Reliable transportation and punctual attendance
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication skills and positive attitude
Preferred
- Previous experience in facilities maintenance or custodial work
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance systems
- Experience with power tools and maintenance equipment
- Familiarity with church operations and event setup
- First aid/CPR certification
Working Conditions
- Part-time position: 20-32 hours per week
- Flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends
- Physical work involving standing, walking, lifting of 50+lbs, and climbing
- Indoor and outdoor work environments
- Occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals and maintenance materials
