Physician
Department: Medical
Days and Hours of Work: Full Time (40 hours, Monday-Friday, 9:00AM-6:00PM),
Exempt
Reports to: Executive Medical Officer (EMO)
Job Summary:
Physicians work to care for patients in a variety of ways, from treating chronic illnesses to
advising about preventative healthcare. While physician specialties might vary, the
commonality across specialties is that physicians primarily work to diagnose and treat
injuries and illnesses. They often do this by performing physical exams, taking medical
histories, performing and interpreting diagnostic tests, and recommending a plan of
treatment.
Essential Duties:
- Examine patients, take medical history, record results and make a preliminary
diagnosis or decision on follow-up procedures
- Administer or order diagnostic tests (e.g., X-rays, electrocardiograms, and blood
work) and interpret test results
- Perform preventive and therapeutic procedures (e.g. immunizations,
injections, and management of infection)
- Exercise professional judgment regarding consultation with the medical director
concerning appropriate treatment
- Refer patients to specialists when appropriate and called for
- Develop and implement patient care plans, instruct and counsel patients, and record
progress
- Prescribe medications to the extent allowable by state guidelines and clinic regulations
- Discuss potential side effects of medication/treatment with patients and ensure that all
allergy information is up-to-date before prescribing medication/treatment
- Provide general health education regarding matters such as proper diet, family
planning, emotional problems of daily living and health maintenance
- Take charge of "code" situations, initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and
advanced cardiac life support as appropriate
- Participate in staff meetings, planning meetings and other meetings, as needed
- Adhere to departmental policies, procedures and objectives, ongoing quality
improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health
information privacy laws
- Record complete, timely and legible medical records

Job Qualifications and Skills:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited medical school.
- Must be Board Certified through the American Board.
- Maintain a current CA state license without restriction at all times.
- Maintain a current DEA certificate without restriction at all times.
- Maintain a current BLS certificate at all times.
- Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of modem medicine related to public
health services and general knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to public
health
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational,
detail and interpersonal skills;
- Computer skills and knowledge, including word processing, medical database
operations and spreadsheets
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with men and women of diverse races,
ethnicities, ages and sexual orientations in a multicultural environment
