JOB SUMMARY

The Recreation Assistant performs daily operations in the assigned recreation facility and/or park. On an assigned shift, responsibilities are limited to the activities and operations on a daily shift during normal operating hours and/or special events. Daily operations also include general maintenance and cleaning in an assigned facility and/or park. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Monitors workflow and daily operations of the assigned facility and/or park to ensure activities, programs, and services operate efficiently and in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Prepares park and facility spaces for programs, meetings, athletic activities, and special events by coordinating room and field setup, ensuring adequate supplies, and overseeing timely breakdown and cleanup.
  • Assists with the coordination and daily support of youth athletic programs, including practices, open gym sessions, leagues, camps, and clinics, to ensure activities run smoothly, safely, and as scheduled.
  • Supports league and program operations by assisting with schedules, rosters, field or facility assignments, and related administrative tracking using designated recreation software platforms.
  • Assists with overseeing the work of community service workers, seasonal staff, and volunteers as assigned, providing direction related to daily tasks and facility operations.
  • Monitors patrons and activities during assigned shifts to maintain a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment, responding appropriately to issues or concerns.
  • Enforces all rules, policies, and regulations governing the assigned facility and/or park to ensure participant safety and proper use of City resources.
  • Assists with athletic field preparation and routine maintenance, including setup, inspections, and minor upkeep to ensure fields and facilities remain safe and playable.
  • Performs general maintenance, cleaning, and inspections of assigned facilities and park areas to maintain cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness.
  • Provides exceptional customer service and hospitality to the public via telephone and in person, including answering questions, assisting with registrations, and addressing concerns in a professional manner.
  • Handles financial transactions by accepting and collecting payments and reconciling receipts in accordance with established accounting policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age. Prior work experience or community volunteer experience is preferred.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of basic data utilization methods, including tabulating information and performing routine calculations to support operational tasks.
  • Knowledge of applicable procedures, standards, and reference materials used to guide daily work activities.
  • Skill to operate and safely use equipment, machinery, tools, and materials required to perform assigned duties.
  • Skill to communicate effectively with others to provide guidance, assistance, and clarification of procedures and expectations.
  • Skill to perform basic mathematical functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions and complete routine work in accordance with established practices and procedures.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in repetitive or short-cycle tasks by applying well-defined rules, procedures, and situational awareness.


CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires a valid Georgia Driver’s License.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications must be obtained within six (6) months of hire, and Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification must be obtained within one (1) year of hire. All required certifications will be provided by the employer.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work requires light physical effort associated with sedentary to light work, including occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Duties may involve extended periods of standing, walking, or sitting, as well as repetitive hand and finger movements while working at a keyboard or workstation. The work also requires sufficient visual, auditory, and verbal acuity to observe activities, receive instructions, and communicate effectively with patrons and staff.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed in a safe and secure indoor recreation facility environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Duties are generally conducted under normal working conditions but may occasionally require outdoor work with exposure to humid, wet, or varying weather conditions. The work environment may involve periodic changes in schedules, activities, or demands to support programs and special events.
