Title: Interim Director of Accounting

Office Status: Initially Remote; transitioning to 4 days onsite per week in Franklin, TN, once the office opens (expected early 2027)

\n

Pay Rate: $80-$90/hr

\n

Contract Length: Potential Temp-Perm

\n

A growing, multi-location organization is seeking an experienced interim accounting leader to oversee day-to-day accounting operations while driving process improvements and supporting major financial systems initiatives. This hands-on role will focus on strengthening close procedures, improving reporting accuracy, addressing operational gaps, and preparing the accounting function for an ERP implementation. The ideal candidate brings senior-level accounting leadership, experience with accounting transformations, and the ability to deliver improvements while maintaining daily operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily accounting operations and coordinate monthly close activities in partnership with the Controller.
  • \n

  • Review journal entries, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules to support accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • \n

  • Oversee consistent accounting practices and multi-entity consolidation across multiple locations and states.
  • \n

  • Partner with revenue cycle management and Finance teams on revenue accounting, receivables reconciliations, contractual adjustments, and reserve analysis.
  • \n

  • Identify accounting backlogs, control weaknesses, and inefficient manual processes; establish priorities and corrective action plans.
  • \n

  • Improve month-end close procedures, process documentation, and accounting performance metrics.
  • \n

  • Support financial system deployments and workflow improvements, including invoice coding, approvals, and accounts payable controls.
  • \n

  • Prepare the accounting function for an ERP implementation through process documentation, data cleanup, testing, and reconciliations.
  • \n

  • Coordinate audit requests and maintain accurate, organized, audit-ready financial records.
  • \n

  • Coach and guide accounting staff while documenting processes to support continuity and transition to permanent leadership.
