Position Summary

The Heavy Equipment Trailer Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of company trailers and related warehouse equipment used in daily operations. This position focuses on trailer maintenance and basic mechanical repair, including lift gates, hydraulic systems, brakes, tires, lights, and minor welding. The role also includes basic maintenance and repair of forklifts and electric pallet jacks. This position does not involve major engine or under-the-hood repairs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair company trailers to ensure safe and reliable operation
  • Diagnose and repair trailer issues involving brakes, tires, lights, mud flaps, air lines, lift gates, and hydraulic systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance on trailers and related equipment
  • Complete minor welding and basic fabrication repairs as needed
  • Inspect and perform basic maintenance and repairs on forklifts and electric pallet jacks
  • Identify equipment issues and communicate repair needs to management
  • Maintain accurate service, repair, and maintenance records
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and safe
  • Follow all company policies and safety procedures

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Experience in trailer maintenance, trailer repair, or diesel trailer repair preferred
  • Working knowledge of trailer brakes, tires, lights, lift gates, and hydraulic systems required
  • Basic welding experience preferred
  • Experience with forklifts and electric pallet jacks is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and complete repairs in a timely manner
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Valid driver’s license preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic trailer maintenance and repair
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair common trailer-related issues
  • Basic understanding of hydraulic systems, brake systems, and trailer electrical components
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, jacks, and shop equipment
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage time effectively
  • Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors and team members

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift throughout the workday
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
  • Work is performed in both shop and outdoor yard environments
  • Regular exposure to noise, grease, dirt, and moving equipment
  • Must be able to work safely in varying weather conditions and follow all required safety practices
