The Opportunity

\n


\n

We are seeking a Land Development Civil Project Engineer to join our Greenwich, CT office. This position is ideal for a recent Civil Engineering graduate, EIT, or early-career engineer with 0–5 years of experience who wants meaningful hands-on experience in land development and civil engineering.

\n


\n

The right candidate will be interested in more than simply preparing calculations. You'll have the opportunity to work on site layouts, grading, drainage, stormwater management, septic systems, utilities, erosion and sediment control, permitting, reports, and client coordination while developing your technical and project management skills.

You'll work directly with senior-level Professional Engineers and office principals, providing an excellent opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, take on increasing responsibility, and develop your career in land development.

What You'll Do

\n


\n

    \n
  • Manage assigned land development projects, schedules, budgets, deadlines, and project deliverables.
  • \n

  • Develop site layouts and conceptual site designs based on survey information, zoning requirements, site constraints, and client objectives.
  • \n

  • Prepare detailed grading plans, including proposed contours, spot elevations, drainage patterns, and site improvements.
  • \n

  • Design stormwater management and drainage systems, including pipe networks, catch basins, detention systems, infiltration systems, and rain gardens.
  • \n

  • Use HydroCAD to model and analyze drainage systems, runoff, peak flows, and stormwater management facilities.
  • \n

  • Design and evaluate individual septic systems, including septic layouts, reserve areas, and related site constraints.
  • \n

  • Prepare sediment and erosion control plans and related construction-phase measures.
  • \n

  • Develop utility layouts and coordinate water, sewer, drainage, electric, gas, and other site utilities.
  • \n

  • Prepare drainage calculations, drainage summary reports, technical memoranda, and supporting documentation.
  • \n

  • Use AutoCAD to prepare, revise, and coordinate engineering plans and details.
  • \n

  • Respond to municipal and regulatory comments and assist with permitting and approval processes.
  • \n

  • Communicate directly with clients, municipal officials, consultants, contractors, and project team members.
  • \n

  • Prepare professional email correspondence and maintain clear project documentation.
  • \n

  • Attend project meetings and occasional site visits and assist with field investigations.
  • \n

  • Manage project time effectively and communicate project status, challenges, and deadlines to senior staff.
  • \n

  • Work closely with Professional Engineers and Licensed Land Surveyors while taking increasing responsibility as your experience develops.
  • \n

What We're Looking For

\n


\n

    \n
  • 0–5 years of experience in civil engineering, land development, site design, or a related field.
  • \n

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline preferred.
  • \n

  • Hands-on experience with AutoCAD.
  • \n

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • \n

  • Experience with HydroCAD or similar hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software is preferred.
  • \n

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • \n

  • Ability to communicate professionally with clients, municipalities, consultants, and contractors.
  • \n

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • \n

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.
  • \n

  • Ability to read and interpret survey plans, site plans, zoning requirements, soils information, and technical documents.
  • \n

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • \n

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred, or willingness to obtain an EIT.
  • \n

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus but is not required for candidates early in their career.
  • \n

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Connecticut land development and municipal permitting experience.
  • \n

  • Experience with AutoCAD, HydroCAD, or other civil/stormwater design systems.
  • \n

  • Knowledge of stormwater management, drainage design, grading, septic systems, utilities, and erosion and sediment control.
  • \n

  • Previous client-facing or consulting engineering experience.
  • \n

  • Construction or field experience.
  • \n

  • Experience preparing technical reports and drainage studies.
  • \n

Salary Range

\n


\n

$85,000 - $115,000

\n
