Position Description

The 2nd Shift Supervisor will have responsibility for all operations of a particular functional area within the manufacturing/operations organization, that produces a high volume of small-run custom products. This position spends time on the production floor planning work for each employee in the area, performing area operations, training new employees, and organizing each area. In addition to performing daily area activities, this position will have direct reports and be responsible for the day-to-day management of associates and will support the company’s operational goals. This role requires a roll-up-your-sleeves, hands on approach.


Responsibilities

• Responsible for the daily performance of the department, with a focus on safety, quality and on-time metrics.

• Manage the workload of the area, recommending overtime as needed, additional labor as identified, and perform operations as required.

• Cross train the team on all products.

• Support quality assurance programs.

• Maintain area tools, fixtures, and other equipment.

• Ensure proper coverage of the area by managing employee time appropriately.

• Perform employee annual appraisals, recommend merit increases and handle all employee disciplinary issues.

• Approve and manage vacation and sick time. Flex resources as required.

• Support process improvements and a lean culture.

• Developing, support, analyzing and improving key metrics such as productivity, efficiency and utilization.

• Ability to troubleshoot Milling, Turning issues.


Requirements:

Requirements

• Ability to work in team-oriented environment.

• Must possess clear and concise written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the corporation.

• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office

• Ability to understand and track metrics and key performance indicators.

• Ability to read and understand blueprints

• Proficient in CNC Lathe and Milling programming and set ups. Mastercam a plus

• Familiar with metals and composites and corresponding speeds and feeds for them

• Ability to read programs and adjust as needed. G-code and M-code

• Familiarity with HAAS, Mazak , Okuma and Hitachi controls


Education and Experience

• High school diploma

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a CNC job shop manufacturing environment

• Strong planning, organizational skills

• Experience in a leadership position

• Familiarity with lean/continuous improvement concepts

• Positive, Energetic attitude
