The Meat Department Manager is responsible for leading and developing the Meat Department team to achieve sales, margin, and customer service objectives. This role ensures operational excellence through effective training, communication, scheduling, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, train, and mentor Meat Department associates to achieve business objectives, including sales targets, margin goals, and exceptional customer service.
- Provide ongoing training on department best practices, operational procedures, and compliance standards.
- Prioritize and delegate daily tasks to meet shifting business needs.
- Maintain clear, effective communication with the Meat Department team, merchandisers, and corporate partners.
- Work alongside associates to complete operational tasks, including shrink scanning and recording, order writing, raw production, incidental cutting, stocking, rotation, and merchandising.
- Develop and manage weekly schedules for Meat Department associates in alignment with business requirements.
- Serve as an effective leader, fostering a positive, productive, and safety-conscious work environment.
- Maintain current knowledge of all Meat Department products and offerings.
- Ensure compliance with food handling protocols, temperature control standards, and company safety regulations.
- Implement and execute weekly merchandising plans.
- Develop and distribute department scorecards to track performance and drive continuous improvement.
- Utilize departmental communication tools, including whiteboards, to ensure consistent information sharing.
- Attend corporate meetings and training sessions as required.
- Adhere to all personal safety and food safety guidelines.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support department and store objectives.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a meat environment preferred.
- Completion of a Department Leadership program preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams).
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to make sound decisions in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent time management, planning, and organizational abilities.
- Skilled in coaching, training, and providing constructive feedback to team members.
- Ability to perform all operational tasks of a Meat Associate as needed.
- Capable of frequently lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs.
- Flexibility to work required hours to meet business needs, including weekends, evenings, and extended hours when necessary.
- Willingness to work in non-traditional schedules and environments, including exposure to extreme hot or cold conditions.
