POSITION SUMMARY
\n
Clinical Duties
\n

- Obtain and document vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations, height, and weight.
- Assist nurses, physicians, and other qualified healthcare providers with patient examinations and treatment.
- Perform patient intake and assist with receiving health screenings according to facility protocols.
- Obtain and document medical histories, allergies, medications, and relevant health information.
- Assist with sick-call operations and route patient concerns to the appropriate healthcare professional.
- Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and provider visits.
- Assist with minor medical procedures within the MA's scope of practice and facility policy.
- Collect and properly handle laboratory specimens as authorized.
- Perform or assist with EKGs and other diagnostic procedures as directed.
- Assist with wound care and other treatments as directed by nursing or medical staff.
- Provide basic patient education as directed by the healthcare provider.
- Recognize and immediately report changes in an inmate's condition or potential medical emergencies.

Work with the nursing and medical team to support the healthcare needs of the incarcerated population.
\n
Assist with admission/receiving processes and appropriate medical documentation.
\n
Help identify and report symptoms involving communicable diseases, injuries, withdrawal, mental-health concerns, or other urgent conditions.
\n
Follow procedures for medical isolation or special medical observation when directed.
\n
Assist with chronic-care clinics and follow-up appointments.
\n
Coordinate referrals and appointments with outside medical providers as directed.
\n
Maintain strict confidentiality of medical information.
\n
Follow all correctional-facility security procedures when interacting with inmates.
\n
Maintain professional boundaries while providing respectful, nonjudgmental patient care.
\n
Communicate effectively with correctional officers and healthcare staff regarding patient movement, appointments, and urgent medical needs.
