Staff Attorney – Senior Legal Services

Salary: $67,200 – $85,000 per year

About Senior Legal Services
Senior Legal Services (SLS) is a joint program of The Bar Association of Baltimore City and the Baltimore Bar Foundation. SLS provides vital pro bono legal services to low-income seniors (age 60 and over) residing in Baltimore City.

Position Overview
Senior Legal Services is seeking a Staff Attorney to provide high-quality legal services to Baltimore City seniors facing civil legal challenges that threaten their housing stability, financial security, and overall well-being. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to advocate for vulnerable older adults and protect them from exploitation.
Key Responsibilities

Provide direct legal services including advice, brief services, and representation in civil matters such as:

Estate planning and administration (wills, powers of attorney, advance directives)

Housing matters (evictions, property tax sales, foreclosure prevention)

Consumer protection (debt collection defense, fraud prevention)

Elder justice cases (financial exploitation, neglect, abuse)

Conduct “Know Your Rights” presentations at senior centers, assisted living facilities, and community locations

Build and maintain relationships with community partners, government agencies, and referral organizations

Maintain accurate case records and comply with program requirements
Required Qualifications

Active license to practice law in the State of Maryland (required)

Strong research, writing, and advocacy skills

Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to senior clients

Ability to travel within Baltimore City for outreach and client services
Preferred Qualifications
-
Familiarity with Baltimore City landlord/tenant law, estate planning, protective orders, and civil procedure (District Court)

Experience working with indigent populations or in public interest or nonprofit legal services
-
Demonstrated commitment to pro bono or community-focused legal work
Compensation & Benefits
Salary

$67,200 – $85,000 annually

12 paid holidays per year (plus General Election Day when applicable)

1 week of paid vacation after 6 months (increases to 2 weeks after 1 year)
