Join a dynamic California law firm with a strong focus on municipal and public agency work. This Citrus Heights office is seeking a Municipal Law/Land Use Attorney to provide immediate counsel to planning commissions, city councils, and other public boards. This is a unique chance to work in a collegial environment with a path toward a City Attorney role.
This full-time, non-litigation position blends transactional and advisory work with public agencies. You'll handle land use, zoning, CEQA/NEPA compliance, and other municipal matters while attending public meetings and collaborating with local officials.
What You'll Do
- Serve as legal counsel to planning commissions, city councils, and other public boards
- Advise clients on the Brown Act, Public Records Act, and Political Reform Act
- Draft ordinances, development agreements, and review zoning laws and variances
- Guide municipalities on CEQA/NEPA compliance, land use entitlements, election law, fair housing, and water law
- Attend meetings and provide real-time legal guidance
- Collaborate with municipal leaders, stakeholders, and fellow attorneys
What We're Looking For
- Active California Bar license
- 3+ years of municipal law/advisory experience
- Experience serving as legal counsel to public boards or commissions
- Strong expertise in land use, zoning, and CEQA/NEPA compliance
- Ability to step in immediately and provide confident, actionable advice
- Local to or willing to relocate/commute to Citrus Heights
Compensation & Benefits
- Junior Role: $140,000–$165,000 | Senior Role: $165,000–$180,000
- Discretionary bonuses based on writing, land use, or election law experience
