About the Role:

The Maintenance Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring the continuous and efficient operation of manufacturing equipment and mechanical systems within the facility. This position is responsible for performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on pumps, boilers, conveyor systems, and other mechanical components to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules. The Maintenance Mechanic will work closely with the operations team to identify potential issues before they escalate, ensuring safety and compliance with industry standards. This role requires a proactive approach to equipment upkeep, including the ability to work overtime when necessary to address urgent repairs or maintenance tasks. Ultimately, the Maintenance Mechanic contributes to the overall productivity and safety of the manufacturing environment by maintaining reliable mechanical systems and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a maintenance mechanic or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including pumps, boilers, and conveyor systems.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and work with three-phase electrical systems.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders and perform manual labor as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical certification or vocational training in mechanical maintenance or industrial mechanics.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing facility with a focus on preventive maintenance.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics.
  • Willingness and availability to work overtime and flexible shifts.

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, install, and repair machinery and equipment with minimal supervision using safe techniques.
  • Operate in response to requests by maintenance manager or support personnel and set priorities as required to maximize equipment uptime.
  • Participate in preventive and predictive maintenance programs to improve operational uptime and equipment life. Recommend improvements and/or changes to PM systems/tasks when applicable.
  • Follow designated work instructions as outline for specific functions. These include but are not limited to; PM work orders, utilizing eMaint CMMS system, continuous improvement tasks, new machine installation set-ups and changeovers, and repair/refurbish assignments.
  • Maintaining and repairing the building and assets both inside and outside the property.
  • Document all work in eMaint and send end of shift reports.
  • Maintain and secure work tools.
  • Clean and maintain work area.
  • Perform back-up for assembly line.
  • Provide on-the-job training to employees, as needed, for equipment.
  • Ensure personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements are met.
  • Trained in how to operate all plant equipment: Forklift & Aerial Lift.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and management.

Skills:

The required skills such as working with pumps, boilers, and conveyor systems are essential for diagnosing and repairing mechanical failures that impact production. Proficiency in operating forklifts and climbing ladders ensures the mechanic can safely access and transport equipment and materials needed for maintenance tasks. Knowledge of three-phase electrical systems allows the mechanic to troubleshoot complex machinery that integrates electrical and mechanical components. The ability to replace gaskets and other seals is critical for maintaining system integrity and preventing leaks that could cause equipment damage or safety hazards. Additionally, the willingness to work overtime supports the continuous operation of manufacturing processes by addressing urgent maintenance needs promptly.
