Sikes Underground, LLC is seeking an experienced Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Operator to join our underground utility construction team. This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for an experienced operator who understands HDD operations, takes pride in their work, works safely, and can be depended on to help the crew complete projects efficiently and professionally.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate horizontal directional drilling equipment on underground utility projects
- Perform pilot bores, reaming, and pullbacks
- Work closely with locators and other crew members to maintain the proper bore path
- Understand bore plans, depths, utility locations, and jobsite conditions
- Recognize changing ground conditions and make appropriate adjustments during drilling
- Assist with proper drilling fluid mixing and use
- Perform daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance
- Identify equipment problems and communicate needed repairs
- Maintain a safe and organized work area
- Protect existing utilities and follow safe excavation and drilling practices
- Work with foremen and crew members to meet production goals without sacrificing safety or quality
- Assist the crew with other underground utility construction duties when needed
Qualifications
- Previous HDD drill operating experience required
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience operating HDD equipment
- Strong understanding of horizontal directional drilling practices and underground utility construction
- Ability to work effectively with HDD locators and ground crews
- Good judgment and problem-solving skills in field conditions
- Dependable and able to work as part of a team
- Good communication skills
- Clean driving record
- Clean criminal background
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of underground utility construction
- Must be willing to work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions
