Job Title: Group Leader 2 – Global Supply Chain/Quality Supervisor

Job Description

This contract role leads a team within a fast-paced global supply chain and production environment, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing operations. The Group Leader 2 oversees personnel, materials, and equipment, develops and coaches team members, supports launch and pilot activities, and drives continuous improvement using lean manufacturing principles to meet production, cost, schedule, and quality objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the effective use of personnel, materials, and equipment to meet production schedules and product requirements.
  • Participate in the training, development, and evaluation of hourly team members to build highly effective teams.
  • Lead and support Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) processes and serve as a resource for launch and pilot activities in assigned areas.
  • Meet or exceed production cost, schedule, and quality requirements while maintaining compliance with established standards.
  • Maintain strong awareness of quality standards, communicate department quality goals, and leverage resources to resolve quality issues promptly.
  • Implement and sustain systems and processes that prevent the recurrence of known production or quality issues.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with employees, union representatives, and management to support a collaborative work environment.
  • Understand and consistently administer National and Local Agreements with the United Auto Workers Union in alignment with company policies and procedures.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices and achieve objectives related to ergonomics, health and safety, and housekeeping.
  • Motivate, train, and develop employees to perform their jobs effectively using standardized work methods and best practices.
  • Ensure team members receive adequate just-in-time (JIT) job instruction training to perform their tasks safely and correctly.
  • Apply lean manufacturing and synchronous production principles with an emphasis on variation reduction, cost control, and productivity improvement.
  • Monitor daily operations on the production floor, identify bottlenecks or issues, and take corrective actions to maintain smooth workflow.
  • Coach, teach, counsel, and mentor other Group Leaders in their responsibilities, fostering leadership capability across the organization.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and union agreements in all supervisory activities and decisions.
  • Encourage employee engagement and participation in problem-solving and improvement activities.
  • Communicate clearly and regularly with the team regarding goals, performance expectations, and operational changes.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience as a supervisor in a fast-paced production or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising a team of approximately 20–25 employees.
  • Strong understanding of production and manufacturing environments, including day-to-day shop floor operations.
  • Experience with quality in a manufacturing context, including maintaining and improving quality standards.
  • Experience in production supervision, including scheduling, staffing, and performance management.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and how they relate to safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Ability to apply lean manufacturing or synchronous production principles with a focus on variation reduction and cost control.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, train, and develop employees at all levels.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with hourly employees, union representatives, and management.
  • Ability to administer and work within union agreements in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Commitment to promoting and maintaining a safe work environment, including ergonomics and housekeeping standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Management experience is preferred, particularly in a manufacturing or production setting.
  • Experience working within a unionized environment and familiarity with National and Local labor agreements.
  • Experience supporting launch and pilot activities for new or revised production processes.
  • Exposure to Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) or similar structured manufacturing systems.
  • Experience delivering or coordinating just-in-time (JIT) job instruction training.
  • Ability to coach and mentor other leaders to build supervisory capability across the organization.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to implement systems that prevent recurrence of issues.
  • Continuous improvement mindset focused on enhancing safety, quality, and productivity.

Work Environment

This position operates in a fast-paced production and global supply chain environment on the manufacturing floor. Work involves close interaction with hourly team members, other Group Leaders, and cross-functional partners in a unionized facility. The role requires regular presence on the shop floor around production equipment, materials handling, and standardized workstations. Safety, ergonomics, and housekeeping standards are strictly observed, and employees follow established safety procedures and appropriate work attire consistent with a manufacturing setting. The position is offered as a contract role in the United States, with work hours aligned to production schedules, which may include extended or variable shifts depending on operational needs.

This is a Contract position based out of Lansing, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
