Job Summary:

The Cannabis Sampling and Accessioning Technician is responsible for accurately and efficiently processing incoming samples and ensuring they are prepared for further analysis but also for safely transporting these samples to the laboratory for quality control and testing purposes. This role ensures the quality and safety of cannabis products in compliance with industry regulations while also managing the logistics of sample transportation.

Key Responsibilities:

Cannabis Sampling Technician:

  • Follow standardized procedures to collect samples.
  • Document sample collection details accurately, including product information, batch numbers, timestamps, etc.
  • Safely and securely transport collected samples to the laboratory, following all transportation regulations and protocols.
  • Ensure samples are stored and transported under the required environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, humidity) to maintain sample integrity.
  • Maintain detailed records of all sampling activities, including sample tracking, chain of custody, and transportation logs.
  • Accurately record transportation details, including departure and arrival times, vehicle condition, and any deviations from the standard transportation protocol.
  • Properly label and package samples for transportation, preventing contamination and ensuring traceability.
  • Follow labeling standards and regulations for the specific cannabis product type.
  • Enter sample information into the laboratory information system (LIMS) software accurately and promptly.
  • Verify and update product and batch information as necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to cannabis regulations and safety guidelines related to both sampling and transportation.
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and quality control processes to maintain compliance.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance and laboratory technicians to address any issues related to sample collection, transportation, or quality control.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with relevant stakeholders.

Accessioning Technician:

  • Receive and verify incoming samples, ensuring proper identification and integrity.
  • Accurately label samples.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace to prevent sample mix-ups.
  • Enter sample data into the laboratory information system (LIMS) accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain detailed records of accessioned Sample and ensure data integrity.
  • Recognize and report any discrepancies or issues in sample handling or labeling.
  • Follow established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols.
  • Properly store specimens in designated storage areas based on their specific requirements (e.g., temperature, light sensitivity).
  • Monitor storage conditions and report any deviations.
  • Collaborate with other laboratory staff to resolve issues related to sample handling or data discrepancies.
  • Adhere to all relevant regulations.
  • Participate in audits and inspections, as needed, to demonstrate compliance.
  • Maintain and clean equipment used in the accessioning process.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in sample handling or laboratory work is desirable.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team, detail-oriented, able to multitask.
  • Ability to follow established protocols and maintain accuracy.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements in a laboratory setting.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirement specific to the cannabis industry desirable
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and regulated environment.

  • Ability to drive safely and handle transportation responsibilities.
  • Proficient record-keeping abilities and data entry

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to prioritize tasks in order of importance.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office and G-Suite
  • Preferred experience with ISO/IEC-17025 regulations.
