About Prospector Plumbing & Heating

Prospector Plumbing & Heating is growing its Wasilla team and is looking for an experienced Plumbing & Heating Service Technician to serve customers throughout the Mat-Su Valley.

We’re looking for a well-rounded service technician who takes pride in quality work, enjoys solving problems, and knows how to take ownership of a job from start to finish.

You don't have to be an expert in everything. We're looking for someone with a strong background in plumbing or HVAC/heating who is willing to continue learning and expanding their skills across multiple systems. Training and support are provided.

The majority of our work is residential service, with some light commercial work. This is primarily a service role rather than an installation position.

Compensation & Benefits

$50–$65/hour, depending on experience

  • Weekly commission opportunity after the initial probationary period

  • Earn 5% on weekly revenue generated over $10,000, provided estimated job budgets are maintained

An Alaska Journeyman Plumber License is strongly preferred, but we’re open to the right candidate with strong residential service experience.

Union Membership: This is a union position, so employees are required to join the union. Prospector will support you through the membership process and help you navigate the requirements.

What You'll Do

  • Take ownership of residential service calls from diagnosis through completion

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot plumbing, heating, HVAC, and mechanical systems

  • Inspect systems and identify customer needs

  • Present repair and replacement options to homeowners

  • Complete approved work efficiently and to a high standard

  • Communicate clearly with customers, the office, and your team

  • Document completed work and photos in ServiceTitan

  • Collect payment when appropriate

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked company vehicle

  • Take ownership of callbacks and work to minimize repeat issues

  • Continue developing your skills through company training

Plumbing

  • Diagnose and repair residential plumbing systems

  • Troubleshoot leaks, clogs, water pressure, and other plumbing issues

  • Service and replace water heaters and plumbing fixtures

  • Perform repipes and sewer-related repairs

  • Operate drain cleaning equipment, including cables, jetters, and cameras

Heating & Hydronics

  • Service and troubleshoot oil- and natural-gas-fired boilers

  • Diagnose pumps, zone valves, expansion tanks, controls, and related components

  • Work with hydronic systems and related controls

  • Perform system maintenance, flushing, and efficiency checks

HVAC / Forced Air

  • Service and troubleshoot furnaces, heat pumps, mini-splits, and central AC systems

  • Service gas, oil, and electric furnaces

  • Troubleshoot ductwork, air handlers, and ventilation systems

  • Diagnose motors, burners, heat exchangers, and controls

Related Electrical

  • Troubleshoot electrical components associated with HVAC and plumbing equipment

  • Work with low-voltage controls, thermostats, relays, motors, pumps, and related components

  • Verify proper voltage and electrical connections

What We're Looking For

  • Residential service experience in plumbing, HVAC, heating, or a related trade

  • Alaska Journeyman Plumber License strongly preferred

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to diagnose problems and develop effective solutions

  • Strong customer service and communication skills

  • Comfortable explaining recommendations and repair options to homeowners

  • Able to work independently and take ownership of service calls

  • Willingness to learn and develop skills outside your primary trade

  • Positive, accountable, and team-oriented attitude

  • ServiceTitan experience is a plus

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record

  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening

Schedule

Monday–Friday, with technicians generally dispatching from home. Mondays include a weekly in-person team meeting.

Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required when needed to complete a job and take care of the customer. Optional on-call opportunities are also available for technicians who want additional earning potential.
