Job Title: Tennis – Pickleball Instructor

Department: Programming

Report To: Director of Recreation

Start Date: May – September; Seasonal

Salary: $18.00 hour

Position Summary: This contract position focuses on providing expert tennis and pickleball instruction to players of all levels, and promoting the sports through private lessons, clinics and demonstrations, all while maintaining a high level of playing ability and customer service.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supports the mission of Lakeside Chautauqua by creating a welcoming, positive, and encouraging environment for players and guests of all ages and levels.
  • Ensures the safety of all guests and staff by communicating and enforcing facility rules and regulations.
  • Welcomes and offers instruction to new players.
  • Demonstrates sportsmanship, discipline, and a passion for tennis and pickleball.
  • Organizes daily mixers and other playing opportunities for adult players.
  • Develops and provides skilled tennis and pickleball instruction for all levels of players from beginner to advance through clinics and private lessons.
  • Develops and provides skilled, meaningful, and fun group lessons for youth and adolescents.
  • Assists with and participates in special events organized by Lakeside’s tennis and pickleball-playing community.
  • Keeps accurate records of all classes, lessons and clinics taught, including participant info.
  • Inventories all equipment and reports any needed upgrades, replacements, repairs, or maintenance to Tennis/Pickleball Supervisor.
  • Informs Tennis/Pickleball Supervisor of weekly pickleball schedule including clinics, events and special programs.
  • Resolves issues tactfully and effectively in a timely manner.
  • Promotes tennis and pickleball programs and events to attract new players.
  • Represents Lakeside tennis and pickleball at community events, as needed.
  • Provides excellent customer service to ensure high quality customer experience and satisfaction. Works to resolve all related issues tactfully, effectively, in a timely manner.
  • Provides private lessons through the Lakeside registration system.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Recreation, Recreation Program Coordinator and Tennis/Pickleball Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Minimum 3 years related tennis and pickleball experience or training
  • Experience with teaching/coaching preferred
  • High-level tennis and pickleball playing ability; competitive and tournament play
  • Ability to analyze player ability, demonstrate techniques, and provide positive constructive feedback.
  • Proficient in singles and doubles strategies and skills play
  • Ability to professionally string rackets, preferred

Certifications preferred:

  • CPR/AED/SFA
  • SafeSport
  • Net Generation

  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, climb or balance. Specific vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus are required. Must be able to lift heavy equipment and material up to 50 pounds with assistance. Must be able to climb ladders. Season Pass Eligibility:

Employees are eligible for a season pass provided they work a minimum of 24 hours per week during the season; employees receiving Lakeside provided housing are required to work a minimum of 32 hours per week. Season passes are for employment use only and must be returned on the employee’s last day of employment.
