Banks Construction Company is looking for an experienced, hands-on Field Safety Coordinator to support safety across our heavy civil construction operations. This role spends the majority of its time in the field working alongside crews, supervisors, and project leadership to identify hazards, improve work practices, provide safety coaching, and help create practical solutions that protect our people.

What You’ll Do

As a Field Safety Coordinator, you’ll work closely with our field teams to recognize hazards, improve work practices, provide training and coaching, and support incident prevention efforts.

Hazard Recognition & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct regular safety walks of jobsites to identify hazards and operational struggles
  • Identify, implement, and execute appropriate controls and safeguards
  • Document findings and ensure timely follow-up on identified deficiencies
  • Work alongside crews to understand work practices and involve employees in developing practical solutions
  • Spend the majority of your time in the field supporting our people

Safety Training & Coaching

  • Assist with safety training for employees
  • Address safety violations or concerns promptly through coaching and training
  • Help supervisors communicate safety concerns effectively with their crews
  • Collaborate with management and other stakeholders to implement safety initiatives and process improvements
  • Lead from the front and provide confident, hands-on safety support

Incident Investigation & Reporting

  • Investigate assigned incidents, good catches, and near misses to determine root causes and help prevent recurrence
  • Document investigation findings and prepare reports for management and regulatory agencies as required
  • Work directly with employees to understand the operational struggles that contributed to incidents
  • Develop corrective actions and follow-up procedures to address identified issues

Policy Development & Compliance

  • Assist with the development of comprehensive safety policies and procedures
  • Help ensure company safety policies comply with applicable regulations and industry best practices
  • Support continued improvement of company safety processes and expectations

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of Safety experience or combination of experience and education
  • 3 years of safety experience on bridge, grading, and heavy highway construction projects preferred
  • OSHA 30 Construction Certification, or the ability to obtain certification within one year of employment
  • CHST, ASP, or equivalent certification, or the ability to obtain certification within one year of employment
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and standards
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly and build relationships with field personnel and supervisors
  • Willingness to spend the majority of the workday in the field
  • Availability to respond during assigned on-call hours
  • Positive attitude and willingness to take ownership of assigned responsibilities
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement
