Position Summary

The Drywall & Painting Technician is responsible for performing professional drywall repair, surface preparation, painting, finishing, and related interior maintenance across company-owned and managed facilities.

The position requires a skilled, dependable tradesperson who can independently assess damaged or deteriorated surfaces, determine the appropriate repair method, complete high-quality drywall and painting work, and leave work areas clean and ready for use.

The technician will work in occupied buildings and must maintain a professional, courteous, and safety-conscious manner while minimizing disruption to residents, patients, employees, visitors, and facility operations.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesDrywall Repair & Finishing

  • Inspect damaged drywall, walls, and ceilings to determine the appropriate repair method.

  • Repair holes, cracks, dents, water damage, impact damage, and other drywall deficiencies.

  • Remove and replace damaged sections of drywall when patching is not appropriate.

  • Measure, cut, fit, and secure drywall panels.

  • Repair drywall around electrical outlets, switches, plumbing penetrations, doors, windows, and other fixtures.

  • Apply drywall tape, joint compound, and corner bead as necessary.

  • Sand and feather repairs to achieve a smooth, uniform surface.

  • Match existing wall and ceiling textures, including smooth, orange-peel, knockdown, and other common finishes.

  • Prepare repaired surfaces for primer and paint.

  • Identify underlying conditions such as water intrusion, leaks, structural movement, or recurring damage and report them to the appropriate supervisor.

Painting & Surface Preparation

  • Prepare walls, ceilings, doors, trim, and other surfaces for painting.

  • Patch holes, cracks, nail pops, and surface imperfections before painting.

  • Sand, scrape, caulk, prime, and otherwise prepare surfaces as necessary.

  • Apply primer and finish coats using brushes, rollers, and sprayers as appropriate.

  • Match existing paint colors, finishes, and textures as closely as reasonably possible.

  • Perform touch-up painting and complete-room painting projects.

  • Paint walls, ceilings, doors, frames, baseboards, trim, and other interior surfaces.

  • Protect floors, furniture, equipment, fixtures, and surrounding surfaces from paint and construction materials.

  • Maintain clean, straight, professional paint lines and consistent coverage.

  • Properly clean brushes, rollers, sprayers, and other painting equipment after use.

  • Properly store and label paints, primers, chemicals, and other materials.

  • Notify the supervisor when additional preparation or repairs are required before painting can be completed.

General Maintenance Support

  • Perform minor carpentry and general building repairs related to drywall and painting projects.

  • Repair or replace damaged trim, baseboards, corner bead, and other associated materials.

  • Assist with ceiling tile and grid repairs when needed.

  • Assist with minor building-maintenance projects as assigned.

  • Identify building conditions requiring additional trade work and communicate those conditions to the supervisor.

Worksite Management

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area before, during, and after each project.

  • Properly protect occupied areas, furniture, equipment, flooring, and fixtures.

  • Use appropriate dust-control, ventilation, containment, and cleanup procedures.

  • Remove construction debris and properly dispose of waste and used materials.
