This role focuses on preparing and painting steel beams and bridge components using industrial painting techniques. You will blast, sand, and coat metal surfaces, ensuring high-quality finishes that meet production and safety standards in a fabrication environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare steel beams, bridge components, and other metal parts for painting by blasting and sanding surfaces to specified standards.
- Operate spray guns and pressure pot guns to apply liquid-based paints, coatings, and finishes on metal and steel components.
- Mix paints, hardeners, and coatings accurately according to manufacturer specifications to achieve correct color, viscosity, and durability.
- Perform powder coating and liquid-based painting on fabrication projects, ensuring consistent coverage and proper curing.
- Set up, operate, and maintain paint booths, spray equipment, and related tools to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Inspect surfaces before and after painting to verify proper preparation, coverage, and overall finish quality.
- Apply industrial coatings and protective layers to metal parts to enhance durability and corrosion resistance.
- Follow established processes for paint prep, including cleaning, masking, and organizing parts prior to coating.
- Handle and store paints, coatings, and chemicals safely, adhering to all workplace safety procedures and guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including blasting, sanding, and painting stations, to support efficient workflow.
- Collaborate with team members in the fabrication environment to meet production schedules and quality requirements.
- Document work as required, including tracking parts, batches, and coatings applied to support quality and traceability.
Essential Skills
- 1–4 years of experience performing industrial painting on metal or steel components.
- 1–4 years of experience prepping and blasting metal or steel, including sanding and surface preparation.
- 1–4 years of experience mixing paints and hardeners for industrial applications.
- 1–4 years of experience working industrially on fabrication projects involving painting and coatings.
- Proficiency using spray guns and pressure pot guns for applying industrial coatings.
- Hands-on experience with sanding and blasting metals or parts as part of paint preparation.
- Experience performing powder coating and liquid-based painting in an industrial setting.
- Ability to work safely in a paint booth environment, including handling paint sprayers, paint guns, and coatings.
- Knowledge of industrial painting processes, including paint prep, coating application, and curing.
- Attention to detail to ensure consistent, high-quality finishes on metal and steel components.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on steel beams, bridge components, or similar structural metal projects.
- Familiarity with using various industrial painting tools such as paint sprayers, paint guns, and coating equipment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions related to paint mixing, application, and safety procedures.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple parts and projects in a fabrication environment.
- Capability to work effectively in a production-focused setting with defined quality and timeline expectations.

Work Environment

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cordova, AL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
