Job Description

Bankruptcy Legal Assistant

Our client located in Dallas, TX is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant with a strong background in bankruptcy law to provide comprehensive administrative and legal support to a team of attorneys. This role is responsible for supporting all phases of bankruptcy matters, including case management, document preparation, and court filings mostly from the creditors side. This is a hybrid, direct opportunity.

Bankruptcy Legal Assistant Role:

Provide comprehensive legal and administrative support to a team of attorneys in a fast-paced, in-office environment

Support all phases of bankruptcy matters, including case management and document preparation

Draft, format, and proofread legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and correspondence

Manage bankruptcy case workflows, including tracking deadlines and maintaining organized files

Handle e-filing in federal and state courts, including bankruptcy court filings

Coordinate with courts, opposing counsel, court reporters, and internal teams

Schedule hearings, depositions, meetings, and manage attorney calendars

Assist with billing processes, including preparation of fee statements and expense tracking

Support litigation activities such as discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation

Maintain and organize documents within a document management system

Coordinate travel arrangements, meetings, and reimbursements as needed

Provide general administrative support, including phone coverage and communication management

Bankruptcy Legal Assistant Background Profile:

5+ years of experience in a legal assistant, legal secretary, or similar role

Experience supporting bankruptcy matters, including Chapters 7 and 11

Strong knowledge of e-filing systems, including federal/state courts and bankruptcy filings (e.g., PACER)

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe

Experience with legal billing software (Aderant or similar preferred)

Advanced document formatting skills, including Tables of Contents and Tables of Authorities

Typing speed of approximately 70 WPM with strong proofreading skills

Experience drafting, editing, and formatting legal documents (pleadings, motions, discovery, etc.)

Familiarity with document management systems (e.g., NetDocuments or similar)

Strong understanding of court systems and legal procedures

Excellent organizational, multitasking, and time management skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work independently and support multiple attorneys simultaneously
