Acorn Forestry is seeking motivated, hardworking individuals to join our team as General Forestry Laborers/Burn Technicians. This position involves a variety of forestry-related duties, including reforestation activities, prescribed burning operations, and general land management tasks.


This position requires working outdoors year-round and is best suited for individuals who enjoy physically demanding work in all types of weather conditions. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, enjoys working outdoors, and thrives in a team environment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with prescribed burn operations, including ignition activities and securing burn lines.
  • Monitor fire behavior and follow the direction of the Burn Boss and supervisors.
  • Perform reforestation activities, including tree planting and site preparation.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools and equipment.
  • Assist with general forestry and land management projects as assigned.
  • Work safely in varying weather conditions and rough terrain.
  • Travel to job sites and occasionally stay overnight as needed.


Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions.
  • Previous forestry, agricultural, prescribed fire, or outdoor labor experience is preferred but not required.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

This position is physically demanding and performed primarily outdoors. Employees must be able to:

  • Work safely in extreme weather conditions, including high heat, humidity, cold temperatures, rain, and smoky conditions associated with prescribed burns.
  • Walk long distances over uneven, rough, and heavily wooded terrain.
  • Stand, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier items with assistance.
  • Work extended hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overnight travel when required.
  • Tolerate exposure to dust, dirt, insects, poison ivy, snakes, and other environmental conditions common in forestry work.
