Summary/Objective

The Facilities Specialist is a highly skilled, hands-on role responsible for maintaining the safety, functionality, and mechanical integrity of all PPCS facilities. This position requires strong technical expertise, with a primary focus on HVAC systems, plumbing systems, and mechanical infrastructure. Working under the direction of the Facilities Coordinator, the Facilities Specialist plays a critical role in executing maintenance operations, resolving system issues, and supporting a safe, compliant, and dignified environment for clients and staff.

Essential Functions

HVAC, Plumbing & Mechanical Systems (Primary Focus)

  • Perform advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems, including heating, cooling, ventilation, and air distribution
  • Complete plumbing repairs and installations, including fixtures, piping, drainage, and water systems
  • Ensure all mechanical and plumbing work complies with local, state, and safety codes
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, and other building systems to reduce downtime and extend system life
  • Respond to urgent mechanical failures, including after-hours emergencies when needed
  • Partner with licensed contractors for specialized repairs, inspections, and code compliance

Work Order Execution & Facilities Support

  • Complete assigned work orders accurately and efficiently through the facilities management system
  • Communicate progress, challenges, and completion status to the Facilities Coordinator
  • Assist with minor electrical, carpentry, and appliance repairs as needed
  • Support general building upkeep and operational readiness across all PPCS facilities

Safety, Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Support facility compliance with city, state, and federal regulations
  • Monitor and maintain life-safety systems such as fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, and exit pathways
  • Identify potential mechanical risks or failures and proactively recommend solutions
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe working environments

Coordination & Documentation

  • Document all maintenance work, repairs, and inspections accurately
  • Collaborate with the Facilities Coordinator to prioritize projects and address system needs
  • Assist in tracking equipment performance and reporting recurring issues

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical certification in HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical systems strongly preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of facilities or building maintenance experience, with significant hands-on work in HVAC and/or plumbing systems
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical system operations, troubleshooting, and safety standards
  • Familiarity with HVAC systems (commercial preferred) and plumbing codes
  • Experience working with digital work order systems and basic Microsoft Office tools
  • Valid driver’s license required

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work performed across multiple PPCS facilities
  • Requires lifting up to 50 lbs and performing physical maintenance tasks
  • Local travel between sites required
  • Participation in on-call rotation, including evenings, weekends, or holidays

Supervisory Responsibility

No direct supervisory responsibility; works under the direction of the Facilities Coordinator.

Position Impact

This role is essential to maintaining reliable building systems and ensuring uninterrupted operations across PPCS facilities. The Facilities Specialist provides the technical backbone of the department, supporting the Facilities Coordinator and broader leadership by ensuring all mechanical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards.
