Robert Half is seeking an experienced Commercial Legal Assistant to support a fast‑paced, sophisticated litigation practice. This is a contract‑to‑hire opportunity for a detail‑oriented legal professional with strong commercial litigation experience who thrives in a high‑performance law firm environment.
The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of recent commercial litigation experience, with additional exposure to insurance coverage, employment law, and/or securities litigation considered a strong plus.
Role Details
- Start Date: ASAP
- Location: New York, NY (On‑site, 5 days per week)
- Pay Rate: $40/hour
- Duration: 3 + Months (Potential to extend)
Key Responsibilities
Litigation Support
- Prepare, draft, review, proofread, file, and e-file legal documents in New York State Supreme Court and Federal Courts.
- Ensure strict compliance with federal, state, local, and individual judge rules, including filing procedures and deadlines.
- Assist attorneys with motion practice, including preparation of motion papers, exhibits, tables of contents, and authorities.
- Support discovery processes, including document organization, Bates‑stamping, and preparation of privilege logs.
- Provide appellate support, including cite‑checking and formatting appellate filings as needed.
Case & Matter Management
- Organize and support depositions, arbitrations, and mediations, including exhibit management and binder preparation.
- Maintain litigation calendars, track deadlines, and monitor ongoing case developments to ensure timely filings and compliance.
- Coordinate with attorneys, courts, and internal teams to support efficient case progression.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of 4 years of recent experience as a Commercial Legal Assistant or Litigation Legal Assistant in a law firm environment.
- Demonstrated experience supporting commercial litigation matters; exposure to insurance coverage, employment law, and/or securities is preferred.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a high level of professionalism.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously in a deadline‑driven environment.
- Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience using legal research platforms such as LexisNexis and/or Westlaw.
- Hands‑on experience with New York State and Federal court e‑filing systems (including NYSCEF and federal CM/ECF).
