Job Title: Fleet Maintenance Technician

Reports To: Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor

FLSA: Hourly/Non-Exempt (Class II) – Full Time

Wage: $29.00-$39.50/hour

Hours: Monday – Friday 4 -10-hour shifts 7:00am to 5:00pm

Saturdays every 4 weeks required overtime 8:00am to 12:00pm, and on-call as needed


Nature and Scope of Position

The technician is responsible for the general upkeep and preventative maintenance of the transit vehicle fleet. The primary objective of the technician is to ensure that safe, reliable, and efficient public transit vehicles are available for daily operations.


Duties and Responsibilities

The following is not intended to be a comprehensive list of the duties and responsibilities of the Mechanic position, but rather a general description of some of the essential functions of this position.

  • Properly diagnose problems and perform required repairs in a safe, timely, cost-effective manner
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance inspections and repairs as required
  • Perform specific vehicle maintenance, diagnosis, and repairs, including test drives
  • Remove, install, repair, disassemble, and assemble parts related to all mechanical and electrical systems on District buses and support vehicles
  • Safely operate all tools and machinery required to perform work duties
  • Assist with general facility and route maintenance
  • Assist with snow removal of facilities and route stops as needed
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of reports and daily paperwork
  • Follow company safety and operational rules and procedures
  • MUST HAVE OWN TOOLS
  • Other duties as assigned

Relationships

The technician is directly supervised by the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor. The technician must also be able to work with drivers, dispatchers, service workers, and outside vendors.


Working Conditions

Shop and outdoors environment – This position will be subject to regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, including, heavy lifting (up to 150 pounds), climbing, bending, stooping, standing, high noise levels, and vehicle fumes. This position works both inside and outside with exposure to adverse conditions and at times extreme temperatures.



Knowledge/Experience

  • Class B CDL *Will provide training to get CDL if needed
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations
  • Training in diesel engine repair and automotive engine repair
  • Training in the diagnosis and repair of vehicle systems
  • Capable of using all test equipment and tools

  • Must have a working vehicle to travel within the service area
  • Must work extended hours, including on-call, and required overtime
  • Able to lift heavy items up to 150 pounds



Compensation details: 29-39.5 Hourly Wage
