Salary: $170,000-180,000

Position Overview

We are seeking a Data Scientist to support a federal agency. The Data Scientist will apply advanced analytics, machine learning, and responsible AI practices to guide strategic decision-making, evaluate domain data team products, and deliver mission-aligned solutions. The role emphasizes collaboration with engineers, automation specialists, and agency stakeholders to advance Data, Analytics, and Artificial Intelligence (DAAI) initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to work within a secure, enterprise-scale ecosystem (IDE/SURVEYOR, Collibra, Databricks, Enlighten BDP, Qlik) using cutting-edge AI/ML technologies to drive digital modernization, compliance readiness, and mission success.

Key Responsibilities

Analytics & Machine Learning

  • Analyze structured and unstructured data from the agency’s Integrated Data Environment (IDE/SURVEYOR).
  • Design, train, and validate predictive and prescriptive models using Python, R, and modern ML frameworks.
  • Apply Responsible AI principles for bias mitigation, explainability, and auditability.
  • Support domain data teams by evaluating and guiding analytics products and AI/ML solutions.

Generative & Applied AI

  • Leverage AWS Bedrock and MLflow to operationalize foundation and generative models.
  • Develop NLP, forecasting, anomaly detection, and other mission-focused models.
  • Integrate models into agency systems via APIs and cloud-native platforms.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Translate analytic results into actionable insights, dashboards, and KPI applications in Qlik.
  • Contribute to stakeholder deliverables such as reports, briefings, and communication products.
  • Document workflows and results in Jupyter Notebooks for transparency and reproducibility.

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure dataset and model governance using Collibra.
  • Support compliance with FISMA, FedRAMP, Section 508, and A&A processes including eMASS security assessments and POA&M tracking.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in data science, applied machine learning, or AI/ML development.
  • Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and Jupyter notebooks, with strong command of data science libraries (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn).
  • Experience with Databricks, MLflow, and Spark-based analytics.
  • Strong ability to communicate technical findings to executive and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS Bedrock, Hugging Face, or comparable generative AI frameworks.
  • Prior experience supporting federal government or regulated industry programs.
  • Familiarity with Collibra, Enlighten BDP, and IDE/SURVEYOR environments.
  • Understanding of responsible AI principles, model transparency, and data ethics.
