Job Description

Job Description:
Our client, a regional property and casualty insurance company, is seeking a Data Science Director. This individual will translate data into actionable strategies for the executive leadership team. They will leverage their understanding of actuarial principles, financial performance drivers, and operational metrics to surface insights, uncover hidden trends and propose innovative data interrogations that influence decision-making at the highest levels of the organization. This is a hybrid position in either Mississippi, South Carolina, Florida, Louisiana, Arkansas or Colorado.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify actionable business insights hidden within existing reports and datasets. Communicate these insights to the executive leadership team to support strategic and operational decisions.

  • Formulate and investigate new business questions in response to evolving challenges and opportunities. Interrogate data to uncover trends, correlations and anomalies not previously considered (e.g., surfacing insights that can influence decisions around pricing, risk selection, target marketing, distribution strategy, claims handling and customer experience).

  • Work cross-functionally with actuarial teams and management reporting experts to amplify analytical capabilities. Lead collaborative efforts to build unified data narratives that drive clarity and foresight.

  • Develop new, innovative reporting models that go beyond standard KPIs. Propose fresh reporting structures that illuminate emerging performance drivers or risk indicators.

  • Translate ambiguous business challenges into structured analyses using internal datasets. Recommend solutions or mitigation strategies based on rigorous data interpretation.

  • Present findings, insights and recommendations in a clear, compelling way tailored to executive audiences. Support strategic planning sessions and performance reviews with data-backed perspectives.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree (preferred)

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in data science, advanced analytics or business intelligence

  • Strong working knowledge of property and casualty insurance operations, underwriting, claims and financial performance metrics
  • Familiarity with actuarial and management reporting processes; ability to collaborate fluently across both
  • Proven experience delivering insights that influence business decisions at the executive level
  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL, Python, R or other data interrogation tools
  • Strong data visualization skills using Tableau, Power BI or equivalent platforms
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills; ability to bridge the gap between data complexity and business clarity
  • Familiarity with agentic and generative AI tools to enhance data interrogation, automate insight generation or prototype analytical frameworks

Pay Range:
The anticipated pay range for this position is $175K - $200K annually. We understand salary is an important factor in a job search, and we encourage you to apply even if you feel that your desired compensation may fall outside of the listed range. The final pay for this position is determined based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant experience, skills and certifications, education and training, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity.
We are committed to finding the right candidate for this role and are open to discussing how your unique qualifications align with our needs.
